Best way to clean TMX brush please?
« on: September 15, 2010, 03:03:18 am »
What is the best way to clean the TMX brush please? I don't have a dishwasher. (other than DH)
At the moment I put it into a sink of hot soapy water and scrub it with my fingers. I sometimes get dough deep down in the brush. Does anyone have a better method? :-*

Cookie,  bread dough on any brush can be a real problem.   I soak the bowl in COLD water for a few mins.,  put my hand in  (or you could use a wooden spoon),  and turn the blades back and forth to loosen dough under the blades.   You can sit it back on base and zap on Turbo a couple of times.  Hot water sets the dough on the brush.   Once set, even a commercial dish washer wont remove it.  I use a blue handled bottle brush for most cleaning ,  from Woolworths, $5.  I have been through 3 of these in 18 months.  Hope this helps.

Thanks Chookie. Fortunately one of the things I actually remembered reading somewhere was not to use hot water for dough.

I have the same problem.  It is really the only thing that I don't like about making bread.  :(

Have you tried using a comb? It works to get hair out of brushes ?

Thermomixer, you are brilliant. What a lateral thinker. I found a wide toothed comb and it gets the dry dough out really well.

Do you all "wash" the bowl like usual with cold water after tipping the dough out?

The reason I ask is that I don't generally have much to clean from my bowl after the self clean. ??? ???

Anything stuck in my brush generally warrants it a good thump on the side of the sink to dislodge it lol

Same here Kathryn.  I often put my brush in the dishwasher for an extra clean (not with dough on it though)

Yes my bowl comes clean with the normal clean, but often there are bits of dough stuck under the blades.

I wonder if returning the empty bowl (after the wash and rinse) to the base and giving it a couple of seconds on speed 7 may dislodge a bit more (like we do to get the last of our cookie dough off the blades).  The more dough we can get out without using the brush, the better. :)

I usually have very little dough left around blades but use the hadle of a teaspoon to remove dough from under the blades, then leave the bowl self-cleaning whilst the dough rises - I usually walk away and forget about it for ages - then it is really easy to clean.
