Sit down, shut up, we're out of gin...
« on: September 18, 2010, 06:16:12 pm »
(... that's what my mother always used to say when dealing with stroppy passengers in first. Or perhaps it was my old housemaster, I can't remember).

Anyway, I'm Mathias, live in London, and I bought a TM31 in a hurry as someone had broken my induction Kenwood (Don't pour liquid N2 directly into the bowl, even with the windows open) and I had a party in 36 hours to cater. I mostly do somewhat avant-garde cookery (needlessly pretentious and complicated, my partner would say) and I like to have a device that will heat to a precise temperature for a precise time and keep stirring, whilst I do something else. The staff at UK Thermomix have been very helpful and professional with my bizarre requests.

Anyway, the device came with a cookbook "Fast and Easy Cooking - TM31 Recipe Book" and I have found the recipes in there to be... erm... Well, not really to my taste. I didn't actually buy the machine to make complete meals with the steamer on top et al, I just bought it as another tool for the kitchen.

But as the book was there, I thought I would give a couple a try, and they have been ... erm... very unsatisfying. I won't get into specific criticism of the recipes (because it's not polite) but I wondered if there were any OTHER Thermomix books around that I could try?

p.s. I'll obviously be posting some of my own recipes in due course; no point giving criticism if you're not man enough to take it!

Hi Mathias, sorry for the reason you bought the TMX but now you've got it I hope it does everything (plus more) than you ever thought it would.  I initially found the recipe book that came with the machine only good for basics really but they are now improving and have some nice recipes that do work. Once we get to know our machines and have more experience, we tend to wing it with recipes and work out our own additions or tweaks.  However, it was this forum that turned things around for me as almost all of the recipes here, if not all, have been tested by real Mums and Dads and now we have a successful review section going, others add tweaks and reviews to confirm a recipe is indeed as good as it sounds or looks. So, check out our huge supply of recipes submitted by members from many countries and see what you think.  Have fun and I am looking forward to seeing some of your recipes posted too in the future.

HI Mathias,  now I'm looking forward to hearing all your gorgeous food adventures.  Perhaps I'll just have to live vicariously thorough yours.  (Ours is necessarily a boring and bland life, I'm afraid.)

Go find your latest favourite non-tmx recipe and start experimenting!!  I'll be waiting by my laptop......  no pressure.  :)

Mathias , welcome to the forum.  Start having fun with your TMX.  You will probably find you can convert,  and even improve your 'individual' recipes.  We wait to see how you go.

Mathais welcome to the forum. Forgetabout the cookbooks. Just have a look at what some of the masters do. Plenty of them here on this forum. Also go here to see some VDOs of Heston Blumenthol and Rene Redzepi and others.

I haven't been responding to the Introductions as there's been so many and my time is limited at the forum here lately, but I just had to check out yours after reading the Subject!! I love it!!

Welcome, hope all goes well with your TMX.

Welcome Mathiasw - looking forward to some avant-garde ideas.  Sure Heston, Ferran and the likes will learn a thing or two from your ideas.

We have a chef in Sydney, Brent Savage, who will soon release a book with ideas that may appeal.  Many recipes apparently feature the Thermomix

I told you thermomix I am finding it difficult here in the deep north  especially with the Sydney Foodie thing on. Now just stop teasing and tormenting me.

I'm sure she doesn't complain Thermomixer - a woman just likes to go out anywhere for her birthday.  Hope you had a good night and spoilt her with gifts and attention.

Hi Mathias

Take a look at the UK Thermomix website (If you haven't already) http://www.ukthermomix.com/recindex.php - quite a few of the recipes have been developed by professional chefs and are a bit more avant garde.

I think the books produced by Thermomix have the 'average' family in mind as far as type of food and flavours go - that is why this forum is great as it does stretch the boundaries.

If you don't stop it I am going to report you to MM for being so cruel.

It is my birthday next month. Can you sent Brent up to Cairns?

Dripping wet I am.
