My DH always refers to any stew or casserole I have made with cheap cuts of meat as 'depression' tucker.  I can remember when his Dad came over from Sydney and my kids couldn't believe that he ate the whole apple, core and all!  It was then he told them the stories of how poor his family were and that you did not waste anything.  We still talk about that to this day.

Kezza, I am glad your kids heard that story. We dont know how good we have it at times.

Steak and veges for DH & I
Leftover over lasagna & veges for DS.
Will do thermie mashed potato.

Absolutely JD. I am looking forward to experimenting with them a lot more. And with thermie, its so easy!

I'm glad I didn't have to cook too much tonight. I'm still traumatised by finding a desiccated mouse stuck on my sewing machine this afternoon. It has obviously sought refuge from one of my cats in the sewing machine cover and caaked it. I haven't used my machine since Christmas, so I have no idea how long it has been there. I had to wait until my DH came home to remove it. I can't face cleaning my machine yet. Maybe tomorrow, or maybe never!
DH had been to the Central Market today and bought half of a Chinese roasted duck. I stir fried some veges and noodles and served it with the duck. Really yummy, especially if you ask for some sauce with the duck. For dessert, he has bought me a vanilla slice from Swiss Glory - my absolute favourite.

I had one fillet of fish to use up (they only had one in Woollies) and I didn't feel like the original recipe so after a quick google search found a recipe for Orange and Basil sauce that goes with Trevally. I went across the road and got some oranges from a neighbour.

It was nice except for the bitter orange aftertaste. I think the orange I used wasn't quite ripe enough yet.

I also made chicken and pistachio dumplings (from this forum).

I now use Pyrex glass containers for freezing. I prefer to reheat in glass. They are bulky but I have an upright freezer dedicated to left overs.

Tonight will be roast chicken, potatoes and sweet potato, with some steamed broccoli. I will see if I can not turn the gravy into glue.

I'm thinking rice pudding from EDC for dessert. I might add some grated apple or chocolate. I think I have some frozen blueberries in the freezer from when they were on special. Spolied for choice!

We're celebrating my mum's homecoming, so I want to do something a bit special.
