Golden Syrup Pudding
« on: October 15, 2010, 03:38:08 am »
Golden Syrup Pudding.
With the TMX, this is tasty, cheap and easy. The inspiration came from the good people at, ourkitchen.fischerpaykel.com It serves 6, but if you like a lot of sauce, then double the sauce recipe and place in a larger baking dish. Sorry no photo at present, as we gobbled it all up.

1 1/4 cups of plain  flour
1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
25 g. butter
1/4 cup of milk
Finely grated zest of 1/2 lemon
1/4 cup of water

3 Tablespoons of Golden Syrup
25g. butter
2 Tablespoons of sugar
1 cup of water

1 Tablespoon of brown sugar
2 Tablespoons of chopped nuts. (I used almonds)

Preheat oven 190c.

Add flour and baking powder to TMX bowl and zap for a few seconds.
Add first measure of butter and zap for a few seconds until it looks like crumbs.
Add milk, lemon zest and water, and on REVERSE mix until it comes together
Scrape out of TMX bowl into greased baking dish. Doesn't have to be even.
Wash out TMX bowl.
In TMX bowl add Golden Syrup, butter , water and sugar, cook for 10 mins at 100, speed 1.Do NOT add topping yet)  Pour syrup over mix in baking dish
Pop into oven.
Cook for 5 to 10 mins., or until sponge rises up over sauce.
Remove from oven and sprinkle with brown sugar and chopped nuts. Return to oven.

Total cooking time is 30 mins.
Serve with milk or cream.

JaneeZee - I was looking for something simple & wintery last night & so I made the batter for this - popped a bit of golden syrup in the bottom of some silicon muffin cups topped it with the batter & then steamed them in the varoma for 20 mins.  I served them with some vanilla custard.  Really good!!!

Greyhoundmum - I don't know what I did wrong but the dough/batter was quite stiff and didn't rise much and it had  a very heavy texture  A bit like the suet ones mum used to make!! I think that I prefer the lighter batter type puds rather than the denser ones.

Chookie, obviously you pour the sauce over the pudding then 'pop into oven'?

Nice one chookie.

Yes JD - looks like the self-saucing puds, then topped. Yum

This sounds like it would taste like Golden Syrup Dumplings which we love. Might have to forget the calories for this one.

Yes Cookie,  that is correct as the dough is like a scone dough and not like a sponge.

:)Thanks for posting this recipe - golden syriup dumplings have been a long time favourite.  This obviously ends as a self saucing pudding, a reminder to self I will give my choc self saucing pudding a go and post .  Thanks chookie.

I've had to close my eyes to desserts as I've just had to take my dear Mum shopping for larger size clothes - if she can't help me eat biscuits, cakes etc then I will end up with the same problem.

Apart from icecream we only have dessert here about once a fortnight or when we have visitors. It's very trying with so many yummy ones to test.

we were having desserts about every second night but had to put a stop to it. now i only allow myself one a week. i am trying to be good about sugar intake but i do love cooking those types of things that are laden with the stuff...was going to make this last night but didn't end up doing it cos I didn't have a lemon -- yay! i've got it to look forward to tonight  ;D
