Hi everyone,

Just wanted to start by saying a big Hiiiiii!!!......to everyone here and thank-you to the moderators who have accepted me to be part of this wonderful forum. I have been given a brand new thermomix as a gift from my sister who said she actually bought this appliance directly from Germany, one for herself and one for me. I was actually contemplating to buy one from Thermomix Australia, because I wanted the security of the warranty etc etc., but anyways now, Ive got one for free so Im not complaining. The only difference with this one is the plug is European, but other than that it is exactly the same. So Ive just booked in myself for a 'back to basics class' before using the appliance as I dont want to start experimenting with it myself by just pressing buttons. Can anyone suggest what else I need to do? What did you'll do when you first got your thermomix and opened the box at home? (apart from finding bench space in the kitchen)? Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated! and any tips I need to know or books that will help me learn to use it to its full potential.

Hi april love, welcome to the forum.  I think when most of us unpack our Thermomix the demonstrator has just delivered it so she usually points out what everything is and then we make something we have previously chosen to do at a delivery. I wouldn't have had a clue what to do with it if I was in your situation, apart from reading the manual and hoping I understood it So I would say just that, read the manual and definitely go to a back to basics cooking class.  I'm sure you could work out how to use it before that happens though, just take it easy and if using the butterfly remember to not go higher than speed 4. Wow what a lovely sister!!
I guess I'd start with something easy like a custard?
I made mashed potato and steamed veg the first night I think. (should check my blog, can't remember already, lol).
Or choose one of the recipes on here that you really want to make and then just go for it following the instructions.

April I'm sure you will find you way around your Thermomix and will be whizzing up amazing things in no time.  If you are interested you could organise a thermomix demo for a few friends and the consultant would be able to help you out with how to use your thermomix at the same time.  Soemone also posted on here a checklist that consultanats use when they deliver a thermomix with safety hints and tips to help you get longeviety out of your tm.  Maybe have a look at that.  Sorry I can't find the link.  Most of all have fun

I'd ring TM Australia & explain your situation but say you'd like to have a delivery demo & they'll put you in touch with a local consultant who will (hopefully) help you..............

Congratulations.  I have a friend who did it the other way round & bought one for her SIL & B who were emigrating back to the UK from Aus.  Some people are very lucky & very loved!!

I would probably purchase the Aussie EDC and a couple of other books (cos I can't help myself), and arrange to have a Varoma demo to reinforce what you learnt at the class and get to know how to use your Varoma better. (what a generous sister you have)

Like the others have suggested.  Get in contact with Thermomix Australia and get in touch with a local demonstrator to help set you up and support you.  That is really important.  We are all here to support you too!

Where abouts are you?  One of us could live close to you too! Everyone on here is always willing to help.
