Almond Oil ?
« on: November 06, 2010, 01:12:22 am »
Hi, I was going to try the Bath Fizzes from the Vegetarian Cookbook to get organised for Christmas presents but don't know where to source Almond Oil from. Can anyone suggest where I might do that? I was unable to get to our Asian food shop or Health food shop to see if they had any so will have to try on Monday.

i've bought almond oil from the local health food shop, because it wasn't stocked at the supermarket.

How's the price compare when you can buy in bulk?  I'm finding the little bottles rather expensive.

Did get to the health food shop today and paid $13 for 500ml so will be interested to know how much it costs for 10 litres. That would make an incredible lot of bath bombs. Excuse my ignorance but what else do you use it for?

Oh - and you can just use it as normal oil for salad oil and stuff like that.  :D

You can also add almond oil into any breaky shake for essential fats.  Try the anit aging breaky shake in the vegetarian cookbook and add a splash of oil to boost its nutrient quota.  This shake - with some tweaks is my all time favourite breakfast and if I have 2 big glasses for breaky it keeps me full until nearly lunch time with a quick piece of fruit mid to late morning.

Thans earth mumma, must send that breakfast shake recipe over to DD1 who is always on the lookout for healthy ideas. Have sent her several slice recipes which she loves - she doesn't have a TMX, don't know how she makes them.

Purple Anti-Aging breakfast shake
(Gluten free)

Ingredients:

1 tbls quinoa flakes               (replace with 2tbls oats if gluten free not needed)
1 tbls rice flakes or millet flakes

2 tbls linseeds (can add a small handful of almonds and sunflower seeds for extra protein if wish)
2 peeled and frozen bananas cut into ice cube sizes (still works well without being frozen)
80gm frozen blueberries (can use other fruit here if you want ie; strawberries, mango etc)
240gm fresh orange juice
1 tbls raw honey (can reduce this as bananas make this quite sweet)
1 tsp vanilla bean extract (or a dash of vanilla essence), optional

Method:

Place quinoa, rice flakes or millet flakes and seeds into the TM bowl. Mill up to 45secs, sp10.
Add remaining ingredients and process for up to 1 min on sp 9.
Serve immediately.
This recipe can be doubled very easily.

Tips/hints:  I don’t bother using frozen bananas unless I have some that have needed to be put in the freezer.  I love adding varations of fresh seasonal fruits to change the flavours, and if you prefer a smoother breaky shake add more freshly squeezed orange juice.   I also usually add about ˝ - 1 tablespoon of cold pressed oil and 1tsp of dulce flakes - for iodine (macadamia, almond or sometimes olive.) I only add the honey if I remember because it is pretty sweet with the bananas anyway.

Adapted from Thermomix “A taste of vegetarian” cookbook

Here's another beautiful breaky

Cada

Ingredients:

Handful pitted dates
Handful shredded coconut
Handful almonds
1 apple
Plain yoghurt and extra fresh fruit to serve
Honey (optional)

Method:

Put coconut, almonds, dates and apple in Thermomix bowl.  Turn dial up to speed 7 for about 2-3 secs (check to see if at desired consistency, if not do again for another second or 2).

Sever with fresh seasonal fruit and a little plain yoghurt with a drizzle of honey if desired.

From “Taste of vegetarian"

Tips/hints:  You might need to muck about with how you process this.  I am chopping my dates first on sp 8 for about 8secs and then adding everything else and doing on sp7 for 1-2secs.  The other way the dates end up too big for my liking.
