newbie measuring cup quetion

Hi All,
My machine is a few days old and I'm a little confused about the measuring cup.

 Do you leave it on the machine when it is running unless the recipe specifically says to take it off?   
 Hope that question made sense.

Use your discretion in most cases.
I put my MC on when what I'm making splatters. Alternatively, if I want some evaporation to take place, I replace it with the basket which stops the splatters and enable some evaporation.

I leave mine in all the time unless it says to take it off. When I'm making jams if it hasn't evaporated enough after the time, I remove the MC and place the basket on the top and use varoma for extra evaporation.

I use MC upside down for most recipes ie inverted into lid but if you want evaporation use lid off. I rarely use the MC in the upright position ie like a hat. My impression is that the way you use the measuring cup is up to personal preference anyway, unless the recipe specifically says MC on or off.
