Instant Noodle Soup - advice needed!
« on: November 10, 2010, 02:09:59 am »
I'm a newbie to the forum though I've had my TM for 6 months now. The other day I borrowed the green 'Lunch Box and After School Ideas' booklet from a friend and made the Tomato Instant Real Noodle Soup from it. Has anyone tried that? It tasted nice, but the noodles didn't work. I added the egg mixture exactly as the recipe said, but it turned into more a curdled soup, rather than noodled soup - a bit like fine scrambled eggs in the soup mixture. I'd love to know what to alter to make this more successful. I like the idea of making instant noodles. And it tasted good.

Hmm. Being a Newbie, I think I've put my advice request in the wrong section in the Forum. Oops. Would love some advice anyway please!

making instant noodles - help needed

Hi! Can anyone give me some advice on how to make the noodles work in the Tomato Instant Real Noodle Soup recipe (pg 18 of 'Lunch Box and After School Ideas' booklet)? I added the egg mixture exactly as the recipe said, but it turned into more a curdled soup, rather than noodled soup - a bit like fine scrambled eggs in the soup mixture. I'd love to know what to alter to make this more successful. I like the idea of making instant noodles. And it tasted fine.

you just need to pour in a constant stream of the egg mix - not too fast. its not looooooooong strings of noodles, but it just has that basic effect.

I'd love to suggest something really clever but I'm not familiar with that recipe - I've just looked it up here: http://thermorecipes.blogspot.com/2007/07/new-recipes-for-july.html

Did you pour it in with the MC in so it was like a very constant thin line of mixture - kinda like the shape of a noodle?? Also speed 1 might be better in that last minute while you pour mix in??  :-\ I love the sound of this recipe - I'll be tryin it out. Please get back to us when you try again to let us know if anything made a difference.  ;)

I DID pour it in really slowly, but had it on speed 2 as recipe said. I wondered if speed 1 would have worked better - less scrambly maybe. Are the speeds on all TMs exactly uniform I wonder? Perhaps mine is a too fast TM?! I never need to chop onions for anywhere near the amount of time that recipes say I do, or I get onion juice and mush. (If you make the soup yourself and have success, let me know.)

I've never made it Kesta so can't help sorry. It sounds a quick soup so hopefully some one will have done it.

I've shifted the original thread. :-* :-*

I've now merged the two topics that were the same, hope I haven't confused anyone too much.

Your TMX should run at the same speed as everyone elses Kesta but sometimes the speeds and chopping times are just too fast or long.  You will learn from experience to cut down to suit yourself.  I'm not into mushed up onion either & I usually chop onions for 2 seconds/speed 5 as I like chunky onion and if I want smooth at the end, I can blend it then. I have found, in regard to speed, that spoon speed seems awfully slow on my machine these days and even if a recipe calls for it, if my food is not moving I will turn it to speed 1 instead.  Hope you work out the noodle soup, I've never tried it - in fact I have never even had those instant noodle soups but I know kids like them.

I've made this a couple of times, but yes, maybe put it on Speed 1 and see if that gives you the "noodle effect". The soup is delicous anyway.
I tend to like my onions or chopped veges chunkier, and often stop 1 or 2 secs before a recipe says to see what state they are in.  Eeasier to hold back than go like madwoman and regret later  ;)

So I've made it - and well it is very tasty and will make again but my noodles too are more like scrambled eggs. I think they worked better when i poured mixture through MC. It also needed a couple minutes extra to heat up to 100oC so they cook instantly. If anyone has anymore tips for this recipe please let us know - I love the whole concept of it.  ;)

yes it will work better pouring the mixture through the MC hole as the blades are rotating. I think the secret is (from memory) not to pour in too fast.

Thanks for trying it too Nay-nay. So when you say you did it with the MC in place, do you mean you poured the noodle mixture onto the TM lid and let it trickle down around the MC? Like they say to do with mayonaise - not that I've tried it yet?

Yeah - that's it. I'm now thinking the mix could have been made a little thinner and it would have worked better too.  :)
