stains on the bottom of the thermomix bowl

I made some meat sauce today and it burnt to the bottom of my tm bowl.  it has cleaned up ok but there is a marks on the bottom of the bowl. is this normal for the bottom to not be shiny and new looking once you have used your bowl a bit.

mwilson,  welcome to the forum.   My bowl goes through various changes.  I get stuff stuck/cooked on and have various methods of cleaning, but the best is to just soak it over night with a bit of detergent or carb soda and then bruch it off in the morning.

Hi mwilson, welcome to the forum.  I have recently bought a second bowl  and was amazed at how nice, bright and shiny it was, obviously just like the other one when it was new  I use Gumption paste to clean any marks that don't come out with the normal washing of the bowl but I always check to see that the food I am cooking is moving around nicely to prevent any sticking and burning.  I therefore rarely use spoon speed these days, speed 1 mostly.  Nothing stays brand new unfortunately and if it looked that way for too long it would mean it isn't being used enough.

Making lemonade can give your bowl a nice sparkle too.  If I get a bit of something stuck, I usually clean it off without too much trouble (the thermomix brush is really great), but then I often have that "rainbow look", and making lemonade gives it a nice cleanup to finish.

i think at the front of your book there is a method of boiling vinegar for an hour

just a wipe over with white vinegar will bring it back to sparkling - same as lemon juice, though I would rather make lemonade with my lemons

I've just discovered that those Chux or Villela 'eraser' cleaners work really well.  They are like big erasers and finely abrade the stains off.  It seems pretty gentle. 

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a stained bowl!

Miranda, do you mean the rectangular white cleaners, sort of like a friable but fairly dense sponge?  If so I have read terrible stories of them - apparently they are very alkaline and can cause painful skin reactions so please take care if you are using them.

just go with the philosophy that it proves you use it a lot!!!  I can still tell the difference between my two bowls after 12 months - the older one is now 2 1/2 years old. I still use it at demo's though.

I was really interested in this question, I have found the rainbow thing happening on the base of my jug, (only a couple of months old) and even though I have been careful to wash it properly I was very worried that I had done something wrong and damaged it!! So apparently the rainbow look is nothing to worry about! Phew!! thanks

I bought a TM last Friday. Made rice pudding etc OK but after sauteing onions found after cleaning that I had a 'bloom' on the bottom.
TM suggested I wash the bowl in the dishwasher but that has made the staining more pronounced.  I have taken photos this afternoon and forwarded them to the TM office and asked for Quality Control to get involved.
I also found my spatula was stained after just scooping pesto out!  My old cheapie spatula got left in the pesto and washed up like new.

For staining on the bowl has to be ...... quality of the stainless steel, thickness of the stainless steel or the element/position. Since the rice pud was OK it has to be quality or thickness of the stainless steel - or a manufacturing problem.   

I have complained as the two bowls my demonstrator used last Thursday were in pristine condition and they are given VERY hard wear. She bought hers a year ago ...... so something has happened in the past year.  I noticed as I washed up both of her bowls by hand and remarked how clean and shiny they were - and we had cooked onions etc for the soup recipe.
 Do hope TM deal with this

I am not going to comment because HO has been sent photographs and your customer complaint, and they will have an opportunity in which to respond. We would love to hear what they have to say in response - please keep us informed.

And I would believe that some/if not most consultants probably would use equipment eg. spatulas, jugs etc just for demo's and not what they would use for everyday use. It would not be in the consultants best interest to show potential clients a TM bowl that had burnt matter or blades that had food residue in difficult to clean areas   Spatulas based on their price would probably not show their face if they were nicked or stained

some consultants definitely do that CP - some even have a demo machine. Mine is the whole shebang that I bought 3 years ago that I use at demo's. My bowl is kept clean with a simple wipe out of white vinegar before each demo as it gives it a nice shine  ever makes it look like new but I wouldn't want that either. I want to prove that I do use it!

yeah and I have met you and you are the real deal. I know from my consultant several things that she has said to me - and because I am not a consultant I feel I can speak out  as to how things are from a customers point of view. I do not receive any incentives from Head Office and I am happy to be in this position to comment on how I feel without being pressured to show a positive side to this machine.

I've had my tm for just over 2 years now and my bowl is always shiny now. I used to have that bloom thing happening, but ever since i started making juice in my tm, it's very nice. I admit I probably don't cook as much as some of you in the tm, so that definitely helps, but my tm is used several times a day and my bowl looks better now than it did when I first started using my tm. I do have more than one bowl, but I use my first bowl most - I wash it and continue with the next thing with the same bowl whenever I can rather than have more than one bowl hanging around. The spares are for emergency use only.
