New cookbooks!
« on: January 10, 2009, 07:48:03 am »
One of my biggest weaknesses is books and I read, borrow and buy them often (too often according to the husband).
I have just bid on Ebay for, and won, a copy of Maggie Beer's new one, "Maggie's Kitchen".  I picked it up for just $21.50 (plus postage) so I'm feeling pretty pleased.
I also ordered a new book called "Paul Gayler's Sauce Book - 150 World Sauces Made Easy".  It was reviewed in the current "Delicious".
I ordered it from a UK website called www.thebookdepository.co.uk which does not charge any postage and prices very competitively - this book cost $23Au instead of between $50 - $70!
I'm looking forward to trying some of them out in the TM.
Anyone else suffer from the same addiction?

A friend told me about Booko the other day and I have used it since then and loved it, but when I searched for the sauce book it didn't find it at the Book Depository.  I went to The Book Depository site and searched there and found it so maybe it still has a few bugs to iron out.

Good afternoon, I'm known as Cookie1 and I too have an addiction to all sorts of books, not only cooking books and magazines.

I must agree book depository is really good. I like the way they don't charge postage and they're really quick.

Hi Amanda,

Glad to meet another "book" lover.  I also can't resist them.  Especially since leaving my job which was at a public library.  My Husband is great about it and tells me that you just have to make a couple of things from each book to justify the purchase!!!!
Keep enjoying !!!!

The husband (what a treasure!) has agreed to let me get the cabinetmaker in to build a bigger bookshelf in the kitchen!
I had one put in when we moved in, but it is now way too small.

I have nearly 400 cookbooks and have totally run out of space for them, not that that stops me.  I find bing in the UK the book depository a lot more expensive than Amazon, eve with free postage. I would imagine for those ordering from Australia, it works out a lot cheaper though as the postage with Amazon to down under must be exorbitant

wow and i thought nearly 100 was a lot! lol
yes, postage from amazon is pretty incredible (often worth more than the book) though it's better than it used to be 10 years ago!

Dont you have problems finding recipes when you need them? I struggle and i dont have anywhere near that many.
I'm not a collector of books....yet, but do have a rather large collection of cooking magazines. All with lots of sticky notes sticking out marking recipes i need to try!! But when you are trying to find a specific 1..............argh!!
