Tmx thirty minute meals - a la Jamie Oliver
« on: December 17, 2010, 09:49:19 pm »
I don't know whether it's hit Australia as yet, but there is a very good Jamie Oliver series in th UK called Jamie's 30 minute Meals.

He shows how to do a main dish, side dish and dessert in 30 minutes - and they're lovely.  The whole meal ready in 30 mins.  You can watch it on you tube if you search for jamies 30 minute meals.

Why don't we have a go and see if we can't do the same thing here, but bringing thermomix in on the deal.  The rules would be that thermie is involved, but it doesn't have to be exclusively thermie.

Anyone fancy it?

As my picture shows, I've suddenly become younger :-)  DD was of the opinion that her picture should be here, not mine!

Great idea. I have the cookbook for the series as well, and there are some lovely recipes that you can do in that timeframe. With the TM, I think we all have the advantage of being able to cook healthy, tasty meals in a decent time, so a thread of this nature sounds good to me!

Oh, I was looking at his cook book the other day, it would be lovely to transform some of them to the thermomix and make them even easier!

We are really struggling with doing meals at the moment!

I have one of Jamie's books but have been rather unimpressed with it - found it all a bit bland and tasteless.

So OK, is this 30 minute meals of any good??

I thought this recipe book was much better than some of his other ones. He offers alternatives to different meals etc. By the way, I thought the topic of this thread was not Jamie Oliver himself, but rather the concept of a 30minute meal recipe thread ie meals one could knock up from scratch after work etc. I'm not advocating that people go out and necessarily buy this cookbook. I happened to find it on special at Costco in Melbourne, hence me buying it. I just love  the idea that Jamie  has of everyone eating the right foods and preferably from scratch, which is basically why a lot of us have bought  a Thermomix, to know what is going into our food and controlling how it gets cooked. The concept of being able to do a complete meal in a Thermomix eg cooking a sauce, steaming veggies, fish, whatever at the same time means it is ideal for 30 minute type meals.

Thanks for that CarolineW. I'm sure it is starting or is on here.

Exactly  :). Not that I'm averse to adapting Jamie's recipes as well, but I thought that we could come up with some practical, tasty ideas ourselves.  Tasty, healthy, easy.  The reasons we bought our tmx, but sometimes inspiration (and/or the brain) is lacking.

Hi All
I was bought this book for Christmas and was instantly thrown into thoughts of how to convert the recipes.  Especially since he even says at the beginning of the book that most of the recipes use a mixer or blender to speed things up - that was a sign for me right up front that the recipes could be good for thermie cooking.

He does some great juices and icecreams and custards as well as pastas and risottos.  I think I will start from the beginning and as I convert them I will post the recipes up to see what you think.  I am a beginner at this though so you will have to be kind! :-\

Sounds like a good book. I'll have to see if I can find it on amazon!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

I've been watching the '30 minute' series on channel 10 at 6.30pm weeknights, there have been quite a few that I can see being able to convert.

He had a lovely curry on there, will experiment with them when it arrives :)

Is that price better than what we can purchase for here in Australia?

Not sure what it retails here for Judy  ??? But I will say that Book Depository is the ONLY place I purchase cook books, or any other sort books I'm looking for.
Some books I have purchased have been more than 50% cheaper than here.....and that's with the free postage anywhere.
Waiting time is usually about 10 days, and if you pre-order books not yet released, you get them even cheaper  ;)
