It was the perfect use for the 2 Aldi fruitcakes I had in the cupboard (my husband bought them on sale--kids took one look and said, no way!)  I imagine that which fruit cake you use has an effect of how firm the mix becomes, my mix was quite still quite sticky after a day in a fridge, so I ended up dipping in chocolate.  Because I later put the white choc "custard" on, it didn't matter if the choc coating was a bit messy, so it was quite quick to do and certainly made the puddings seem very indulgent. I meant to take a picture but the last day of school was just a blur so didn't get around to it.  I used cognac which gave a very yummy adult taste to the puddings.  I gave them as gifts to my colleagues who were very appreciative!

I'm glad you liked them. We have them every year and they are so easy to make.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.
