Cherry ripe icecream
« on: December 19, 2010, 11:52:22 am »
I am planning on making a cherry ripe icecream for Christmas.  Would this work?  Any hints, tips, ideas, etc very welcome!

frozen cream
frozen coconut cream
frozen coconut milk
frozen cherries
chocolate

If I chunk up the chocolate first, take it out, then whizz all the frozen white stuff together, then add the cherries & give it a light chop then throw the chocolate back in & mix it all up, would that work?  Is there a better way to do this?  Open to all ideas!

What times, speeds, etc would be best?

Found this recipe.  How do you convert it to tmx?  (I'm so new at this...  ???)

Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia Ice Cream Recipe
(Makes grateful 1 quart)

Ben & Jerry - "A couple of Dead Heads in Maine sent us a postcard with a name for a new flavor. They left the recipe up to us. We got to work with some fresh bing cherries and threw in the chocolate flakes as a last minute inspiration. At last report, both Jerry Garcia and his wife Carolyn are crazy about it."

Ingredients

1/4 cup shaved plain chocolate (B&J prefer Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate candy bars. I couldn't find them in Sydney, I replaced them with Hershey Milk Chocolate candy bars)
1/4 cup fresh Bing cherries, halved and pitted (you may use canned cherries, but see sure to drain the syrup)
2 large eggs
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups heavy or whipping cream
1 cup milk

Method

   1. Place the shaved chocolate flakes and the cherries in separate bowls. Cover and refrigerate.
   2. Whisk the eggs in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy, 1 to 2 minutes. Whish in the sugar, a little at a time, then continue whisking until completely blended, about 1 minute more. Pour in the cream and milk and whisk to blend.
   3. Transfer the mixture to an ice cream maker and freeze following the manufacturer's instructions.
   4. After the ice cream stiffen (about 2 minutes before it is done), add the chocolate and the cherries, then continue freezing until the ice cream is ready.

Or just try this one http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=3895.0 and chop some cherry ripe bars into it. Too easy.

I'd do as Gretchen suggested. After you have made this icecream you can fold whatever you like into it. You are limited only by your imagination. The best thing is it doesn't need re beating.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

I made it based on the recipe Gertbysea linked to.  For reference if anyone comes looking here, my recipe is http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=3895.msg65886#msg65886
