Question about Zucchini Slice
« on: January 06, 2011, 05:09:10 am »
okay, so I saw the recipe for zucci slice on the recipe community page and have to use up some zuccis tonite....
it has you chopping ingredients and removing them one by one and setting aside.....wondering what would happen if I just chopped the whole lot together (onion, zucci, bacon?) using the turbo button maybe ? and then adding the flour, eggs etc.?
thanks :)

Maybe chop the onion for a couple of seconds then add the bacon and zucchini and do for a couple more seconds before checking to see how much longer it needs to get to the desired size.   Haven't got the other recipe in front of me but it doesn't really matter if is a bit chunky does it ?  Have a go Sonan, it can't do any harm.

thanks guys
I was wondering the reason behind all the chopping and setting aside of individual items as most thermy recipes seem to be all-in type thing....am going to start it out now so will post how it goes :)

The worst that can happen is to get a lovely soup. :P

hehehe  :P

Okay, well so far, so good. I just chucked the bacon, onion, cheese and zucci in and hit turbo a couple of times. Then added the flour and egg and reverse mixed. Looks good to me !
here is the original recipe ( I only put half an onion and used half the amount of cheese)

You sure made short work of that preparation Sonan, are you going to do a review over there and let on what you did? I see CC has made it - did you follow the instructions CC or do your own thing?

It was really delicous too....glad I only did half the cheese....saves calories and fat and was cheesey enough! Probably could have added more zucchi actually.....it would be tasty with leeks and assorted herbs as well.  Kids all loved it.
Really quick and easy. Will definitely be putting this on my list to make often!

Way behind with the forum today so only just seen this.We loved the recipe,I did the cheese first and set that aside.I dropped the quartered onion on "running blades" speed 5,stopped the TM and then added the zucchini in chunks and chopped speed 4 for a couple of seconds.I always chop my bacon by hand, it's the one thing that I hate the TM doing as it always winds around the blade. Then I just piled everything else in and followed the recipe of "20-30 sec on  :-: Mine only took 30minutes to cook.

DH has made us a small, raised vegie garden and our zucchinni are going mad. So I'm glad I'm seeing all these recipes. It's lovely to have a small vegie plot again, haven't had one for years.

hi cookie, our zucchinis are going crazy too. here is something i thought you may like even though its not a tm recipe.
make little parcels wrapped in tin foil to cook on the bbq. original recipe slices a zucchini in half, crumbles feta in the middle and finely chopped mint, a little cracked pepper, then close up and wrap in foil. cook on bbq.
as we have a large variety of squash and zucchini, i chop ours all up into bite size pieces and wrap so that everybody gets there own parcel with a selection of vegetables. just make sure you dont overcook them, everybody we have served them to loves them even our 2 and 3 year olds.
i find zucchini very bland so the feta and mint adds lots of flavour.
hope you enjoy
nicky  :)
the answer is chocolate, who cares what the question is!

Cookie, so glad to hear you have a little raised plot for your vegies. It's amazing what you can produce from these little gems.

Nice idea Nicky.

A zucchini thread! Just what we need right now when all the vegie gardens are producing masses of them. I also have 'baby' squash.
Good recipe in the West Australian yesterday for zucchini fritters with besan (chickpea) flour. I've thrown it away, though, but one of you Perthies might have a copy. It's on the Crossword page.

I marinated sliced baby squash in a lemon vinaigrette and then topped a lettuce salad with the squash and vinaigrette - delish!

Oh, and I always process my cheese first, then add everything else one at a time depending on hardness for a zucchini slice. I also chop bacon by hand and capsicum, if using.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.
