Help with Over Heating

Hi All

I am having some problems with my Thermomix.  I have called my rep and she is coming in the next few days, but in the meantime I thought someone may be able to help me.
The problem started when my husband was making bread.  During the kneading process, the temp indicator showed that the temp was going up.  Soon it was showing us the bowl had reached 100 degrees.  We turned it off and removed the bowl.  It was hot, and some of the dough had begun to cook to the bottom of the bowl.
So we cleaned things out and I washed the bowl and cooled it down.  Turned the thermomix on and off again.  This time I added cold water to the bowl and turned it on to speed 3 - no heat.  Within 1 minute the water was hot and the temp was reflecting 60 degrees.  Just a reminder - I am not asking for any heat.
So I then tested it asking for heat.  Pressed 90 degrees added cold water to the bowl and it seemed to heat as it should, in the expected time frame.
So we tried again with a lower heat 60 degrees.  Things seemed to be ok, BUT the heat went up, it kept heating hotter than we had even asked.

So to summarise.

The bowl is heating rapidly - even when we dont ask for heat.
When we do ask for heat - things seem ok, but it wants to heat to a hotter temp than we ask for.
When it is doing its freaky self heating the heat light indicators dont remain on as it passes thru that temp.  Only one light is on at a time.
When it is doing its normal heating - when we ask it too - all the lights are on as they always have been.
We have turned the whole thing off and unplugged and let it sit for 30 minutes.  The problem still exists when it is turned back on.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

You definitely have a problem there Flipper and have done the right thing by calling your consultant.  I wouldn't use it until you have had the problem seen to - never heard of this problem before from anyone on this forum but there may be a consultant out there who has.

sounds like it needs the TMX doctor  Hope you aren't without for too long.

I have never heard of this at all  Doesn't sound good though. Best for your consultant to look at it and then get a technician to see to it :-\Hope you don't have to be without it for too long.

Mine has just started doing the same thing.  I am not happy particularly as I don't have a consultant.  I have contacted Rosemary from Queensland and I'm hoping she might have an answer.  My machine is only 18 months old and I would have thought it would last longer than that.

I have just heard from Rosemary, literally 10 minutes after I sent her an email.  She has never heard of this problem so it looks like Tom is definately sick.  I am very happy with the service Rosemary is giving me....she has been very helpful which is making me far happier about dealing with Thermomix....its amazing the difference it makes.  Hopefully Tom will be able to be fixed fairly quickly because Ken (my Kenwood Cooking Chef) is about to be overworked in his absence.

How did you go with getting your problem fixed?  I had mine returned yesterday and it had to have the power board in the base replaced.  Apparantly it had failed - which is something that doesnt occur very often.

I believe mine was the same problem.  It was fixed really really quickly so my faith in Thermomix (queensland at least) has been restored.  It seems to be working fine now....although it has not had a lot of use in the last week as I have been in a mood and sulking and haven't felt like cooking....hopefully I will get some stuff done this weekend, I just need the days to become 36 hours instead of 24.

Mine's now sick too with the same illness    Just when I'd committed to a heap of cooking for different events over the weekend. 

It's already been sick twice and had to go to the doctors.....  AGGHHHHHH!!!!!!   

I am sooo hoping that the sticky date pudding that I've just put in the oven will be ok. I couldn't work out why the mixture was so runny once I added the eggs.... Unfortunatly my mix master is in storage half an hour away and DD is tucked up in bed fast asleep.

Oh you poor thing ILB, can you borrow Mum's?  Hope the sticky date pudding cooks up OK.
