Recipe-Curried Chickpea and Lentil Stew
Book- Budget Busters.
I needed curry powder, made that first, used the Madras recipe from the F&E Indian Cookbook page 25.
Didn't have fresh spinach but used frozen Swiss Chard that I had in the freezer.I stirred that in(defrosted)at the end of the cooking time.Didn't add the (optional) cayenne pepper.
The TM is pretty well cooking to capacity and didn't think it would all cook in the 16 minutes but it did.
DS and I loved the spicy stew.Might reduce the TM stock as it was a little salty.Would love to try a little tomato next time to slightly sweeten it.This a great budget recipe.

Sounds good CC.   What do you think of the Budget Busters book as a whole?

We just ate it with bread Chookie. We both really like it and it was so simple to make.I really love recipes that you can put together at a moments notice, if you have forgotten to take something out of the freezer :-))

This would be a good caravan meal. I will give it a test first.

Made this tonight for vego teenager, but we all had a taste. Used curry powder made from the recipe in the vegetarian book.  Also served with a half quantity of chappatis from the vegetarian cookbook too.  Put the spinach (had about 100g, rather than a handful) into the thermoserver and put the curry on top to wilt it.  We liked the texture, the chickpeas made it a bit more substantial than a regular lentil dahl.  Like the comment above, it is great that it only takes 16 minutes to cook.  Easily rolled and cooked 7 chappatis while the curry churned away in Clancy (Tmx).  Fast healthy and yum.

Many thanks.

Thanks for that.  It looks great and now is the time to make it with the weather wet and cooling down.

I made this yesterday & it really is fantastic - super cheap & really tasty.  I followed the recipe exactly & it was perfect & made exactly 6 portions like it said it would.  I'll definitely make this again & again.  Much better than a boring sandwich for a quick & healthy lunch.  I just served mine with crusty bread but I'm sure it would be lovely over rice, like a dhal.
