i do confess to yet another der-der moment  :P

I'm the same as you maddy, dislike glace cherries as do most children but guess it depends what you put them with to change peoples ideas.

aha! I had the big sister here, still used some food coloring, they came up a treat with some milk chocolate.

Took some to a mums group today, there were none left when I left  :D

My hubby like them 'more' then cherry ripes, apparently the flavor is just right. Thanks Rara, they will be a party favorite, I'm sure :)

My pleasure LeeJ.

Just started the diet today so I'm pretending I didn't see this recipe. 10 kilos to lose and have now promised myself just a small piece at 5 kilos to reward myself. I looooooooove cherry ripes. Oh wait..................I'm sure that's where I found some of the aforementioned kilos came from in the first place.  ;D ;D

YUM Rara!!
These were a big hit  :-*

I did put 3 cups of coconut into the mix, but found it was not wet enough to roll, so added a little more condensed milk.  I think next time I will stick with just the  2 1/2 cups of coconut  ;)

Kids insisted at least one bite should appear in their lunch box today  :P

I did the first stage of these last night and will coat them in chocolate this morning.  I made 56 balls, how many did you get maddy?  I figured the smaller the better calorie wise  :-)) :-)) and I will have even more to give away to others to try.

Hmmm.....not really sure judy.....as soon as the chocolate was setting, the kids were pinching them off the plate! LOL.
Will count next time.
To make the scoop and rolling quick and easy, I use a mini wilton cookie scoop (which is about a  U.S. tablespoon roughly).

I'm fairly sure there would have been around low 40's amount.
Will probably halve recipe if they are just for us next time.

Thanks maddy, useful tool.  I used latex gloves and mine are the size of a 10cent 20 cent piece. Had to melt more chocolate because of the extras though.

Rara,  had a bread demo today and offered your Cherry Bites with coffee .   had made 40.   What they didn't eat they took home.   They loved them.   I didn't mind,  as I love them also.   next time I make them I will put 2drops of vanilla in.   thanks for this recipe.

I can hardly see the screen of my netbook for the sticky tongue licks all over it. I will definitely be making some of these.

Rather than vanillla, add a couple of drops of cherry flavouring if you can get hold of it.

My late MIL used to make a Cherry Ripe slice with similar ingredients. The base was Nice biscuits and the filling much the same, but with a bit of copha added. The topping was drinking chocolate and copha. Whenever she gave the recipe to anyone, she'd leave out the cherry flavouring, so no one else could make it quite like she did!!
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.
