Newbie wanting to lose weight using Thermomix

Hi, I'm new and haven't yet purchased the Thermomix.
It's a lot of money to spend & I would be willing if I knew I could lose weight eating unprocessed foods. Has anyone found the secret to losing weight
without having to go on a diet???
I have read a few posts that showed people have put on weight & that concerns me, although I am not into sweet foods. I was thinking of using the Thermomix for creating Gluten Free meals & would like some feedback from anyone who has lost weight by switching to Gluten Free. Looking forward to your responses!
Cheers!

Hi Nola,
I was concerned before I purchased my TM as well as I knew a couple of people who had put on weight since they brought their TMs. But ultimately its not the TMs fault as we are responsible for what we put in our mouths. Any way I actually lost weight when I first received my TM as I was making so many meals with fresh ingredients instead of buying pre prepared meals full of preservatives. I haven't lost anymore weight recently but I haven't put on any either so that's good.

Hi Nola, welcome to the forum. You say you are not into sweet foods and they are the killers with weight gain so if you can resist all the lovely temptations we have in that section, you will be right I am sure. Plenty of good recipes on here that will not make you gain weight. Can't answer the GF question - I have the GF recipe book for the TMX but haven't done a lot out of it (2 things I think) and I think most of the people on here who cook GF do so because of their intolerances not as a weight loss thing.

hi nola
like dede said its not a problem with the thermomix ie certain people putting on weight more what we cook and hence put into our mouths ..i think the problem is that most people who get their thermomix realise how much they can cook and go a bit crazy cooking so many different things just because they can thanks to the thermomix but if you cook healthy you wont put on any weight and its definately a plus re no preservatives and fresh wholesome foods prepared..as for the gluten free..there are a few great people on here that could help you with that...as JD said its due to their families having intolerances to gluten or other elements so they cook accordingly..im not sure though that gluten free means less weight, maybe less bloating but im not sure...comes down to balanced diet and preparing healthy meals..good luck with your decison

Welcome Nola. I have lost weight since getting my Thermomix but it is probably mostly down to avoiding any recipes which have a lot of sugar or fat in them and cutting back on the amount of oil or butter that are in some of the recipes. I also have cut back on portion size
You might be interested in this discussion, although it talks more about general principles rather than using the machine to lose weight.

Hi Nola. Everyone is correct about the TMX causing us to put on weight. We can't blame the machine, it's just that we want to make all the delicious sounding sweet things and then don't have the will power to deny ourselves eating it. I love to try new things but then often give them away after a small taste, or send them to DD's work.

That's exactly what I do as well, Cookie. I love sweet treats but try never to keep anything too sweet / fattening around because I know we will just eat it so I cook / bake / make whatever I want, keep a VERY small portion for ourselves and give the rest away. My neighbour's kids love this idea and often turn up looking hopeful on my cooking days!

Hi,
I am sure you'll love the tmx, but most likely it will not really help you loose weight right away because you'll want to try all the amazing recipes.
Sooner or later you'll get to a point where you will just not like food anymore that is not as good as the stuff that you'll be able to make with your TMX; after all and in the long run it is just a way to much better food and that itself will help your weight to go down.
If it is about loosing weight maybe you should try to go without carbohydrates at night. So for dinner it would just be veggies, salads and meat/fish dishes. No Bread, potatoe, rice, chips or noodles. You should make sure you get enough protein if you are on a low carb diet. Low Carb recipes are easy to find online - at least in Germany... ;-)
Good luck,
Susanne

It is interesting you mentioned that food isn't as good as the food you make in your TMX susannecooks. DH and I bought a cinnamon scroll when we were away recently. I love cinnamon scrolls and this was bought from a reputable place. I didn't enjoy mine at all but decided to keep quiet about it. Later DH said that he didn't really enjoy his. Thank you TMX you mix cinnamon scrolls well for us.
Similarly DD and I bought a very tasty looking treat in Singapore that had custard in it. We didn't enjoy it all as the custard was far too sweet. Thank you again TMX.
These two occasions brought home to me just how much our taste has chamged since I got the TMX. (2½ years)
