Heinz Cereal Bars

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone has a recipe to make a cereal bar like the Heinz cereal bars. I dont think they would be that hard to make but just need some ideas on what would work to make the recipe.

Mandi are these like a cakey/biscuit with a fruit filling? Too long since I had little ones eating things like this but could be a good option for mine if we can work something out  ;)

Hi Faffa,
I think they are kind of a biscuit outside with the fruit in the centre. I just cant work out what recipe you would use. It would need to be able to be rolled and not to crumbly or crunchy. I am asking for my sister who feeds them to her baby. I know my kids would like them too.

Something like a fruit slice?? I think you could take this recipe and use it as a basic start?? I use dates as filling rather than the mixed fruit but you could use homemade jam or fruit puree to put into the bickie pastry and roll it into this bar shape. You could even mill oats or nuts and put it in bickie pastry.  ???
Pastry
125g butter
50g sugar
1 egg
260g SR flour
a little milk
Filling
500g mixed fruit
60g water
juice 1/2 lemon
1 tbsp syrup
1 tbsp cornflour
Put fruit, water, lemon juice and syrup into bowl 100C 5min sp 2-3
Thicken with cornflour and put aside to cool.
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and beat well.
Add flour and milk and mix into stiff paste.
Roll out half of Pastry into 30x20 tin extending up sides of tray.
Spread filling over pastry.
Roll out remainder of pastry and cover filling. Press edges together.
Brush with milk and bake in 180C for 30 mins.
Stand for a few minutes and turn out.
When cool top with lemon icing and cut into 24 pieces.

Does that box really say for children 1-3 years? :o I'm horrified that this sort of highly processed junk is being promoted as a nutritious snack for babies and toddlers.  :(

So here is what I have come up with - felt like Heston trying to make these look like the Heinz bars!!  :D

Pastry
125g butter
50g sugar
1 egg
260g flour
2 tsp baking powder
a little milk
Filling
500g dates
60g water
juice 1/2 lemon
1 tbsp syrup
40g flour
Put fruit, water, lemon juice, cornflour and syrup into bowl 100C 5min sp 2-3 (add extra water if starts to stick)
Put aside to cool.
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and beat well.
Add flour and bring together at sp 4
Add a little milk and  :-: 30 sec will come together into a ball of pastry.
Divide Pastry into 3 and roll into long sauge shape and flaten out.
Spread filling down middle of pastry.
Fold pastry in to form 'sausage roll' shape
Brush with milk and bake in 180C for 30 mins.
(Look at photos to get the idea of what I mean.  ;))

As you can see the filling was too much so either halve the filling or double the pastry.  ;)

Verdict: I think with a little tweaking as to sizing this will work and they remind me of the Arnotts 'pillow bickies' we had as kids. What do you think??
