Glucose Syrup spill.... Anyone help with clean up tips?
« on: May 27, 2011, 04:11:20 am »

Glucose syrup has tipped into one of my pantry draws   :'(

Does anyone have hints or tips for getting the horrible stuff cleaned up?

Has it set hard LeeJ?  There was a hint for cleaning something similar by placing a damp tea towel over the spillage then use an iron -  guess that softens it again and makes it easier to remove with a damp cloth.  Or maybe you could soften it with a hair drier, on second thoughts that would be easier than the iron.

If it's sticky and you don't mind a chemical and a stench - acetone (nail polish remover) is great for cleaning off sticky jam jar labels so it might be ok for this.  Not sure if it might damage whatever material your pantry shelves are made of???  Maybe a small patch at the back first?

So it seems the easiest way is to be in a cool place, so it is firm, paint scraper as much as possible. Then a generic cleaner, and paint scraper it some more. Came off no worries.

My heart sank when I saw it, the whole container had leaked out!

Lesson learned, make enough fudge to use all the glucose syrup in your house ;)
