Thanks

Where do I start?

Firstly, the shape of the machine is different. In the TM31, the bowl sits in the middle.
Secondly, the bowl is a different shape - it's wider and not as tall.
Then, there's the speed differences - the TM31 has a slower low speed, that is  ^^
It also has a reverse function which allows movement of ingredients without cutting as the blades are blunt on the reverse side.
There's also a dough function which I don't think the TM21 had.
Finally, the TM31 is much, much quieter.

Are you looking at upgrading? There's still a market for the TM21. I sold mine for $800.

Hi piggiwig
This was the same question I asked last week and the HQ here in England sent me this list. I haven't put a photo on here before so I hope that this will come up for you and that you can read it. Let me know if you can't and I will ask for advice from the moderators here.
I have decided to sell my TM21 and go for the TM31 even though I had hoped that there would be more differences than shown on this image. The TM21 does have the dough function Lexi. The main differences seem to be less speed, sound and reversible blade. You can create the same reverse blade in the TM21 using the butterfly on No. 1. The Thermy 21 does not have the intelligence to detect a blockage and momentarily reverse to get rid of it though. I shall be happy with the shallower bowl of the 31. I told myself that I have to sell my 21 before ordering the 31.   I can't wait and am very excited just as if it was my first one.
By the way, they have assured me here that there is no new model being planned at the moment.  I hope that is true and not just sales talk.

Does UK Thermomix offer part exchange anymore Dot?I know they use to give it.I was at a cookery class once and one of the girls brought in her old TM21 and went home with a new TM31 but I can't remember how much they allowed on her old model. The reason she swapped to the newer model was her TM21 broke down just before Christmas and John Tuner very kindly lent her a TM31 for the busy Christmas period, while her old TM21 was mended. She loved the new model and decided to change. :)

I love the TM31, and use it lots more than I used my TM21... I think the bowl is lots easier to clean, and I seem to be able to make larger amounts with the TM31 - the bowl may be a little bigger, not sure, and the varoma is a better shape for steaming so you fit more in. And it's quieter while mixing, for sure.  :)

Yes Denise,
They do offer part exchange.  The current offer is £120 for the TM21.(for machines that have only had domestic use and that are in good working order)  There was a special trade in of £200 prior to 31st May.(no reason given but it gave me the notion that they were trying to get rid of their stock of TM31's prior to a new model being introduced, however they assure me that this was not the case. Perhaps I am too sceptical but I can't help it. £120 is not a very good offer though is it?  The TM31 is currently £885 inc VAT, delivery and 2 year warranty.

I agree Dot £120 doesn't seem a lot but I suppose it depends how fast you want a TM31.If you have lots of patiences I would try the eBay route and see how the sale unfolds, you can always put a starting bid of £120. :)

When we renovated our kitchen, we took out a wall that led into the lounge room. Once this happened, I couldn't use my TM21 when anyone was watching TV in the lounge due to the noise it made. I ended up putting it away for two years.
When I saw the TM31 demonstrated, I swooned and bought it outright, thinking I'll sell my TM21 one day. It took 6 months, but I did sell it!

I sold mine to my sister for $600, then bought the new one by becoming a consultant & paying it off with my sales.  And then you can earn a free or discounted one as a consultant - I got my 2nd TM31 for $500 because of points I'd earned.  ;D
