Hi,
Just got my Theremomix and was so keen. Made risotto which was great but then made the easy chocolate cake and it was flat as. Tasted nice and fudgy but don't think that was the idea. Can anybody help me with what I did wrong? I am also after a recipe for a wheat free bread?

Hi berpsie, welcome to the forum.
This
is a very good chocolate cake recipe, have a read of all the comments. You will have some disappointments in the early days but you will soon sort things out and find recipes which work every time. The forum recipes are great, start off with those which have a lot of comments then branch out and try other things. We have a
recipe review section
for recipes from the books - worth checking out in there too before doing a recipe to see if anyone has suggested any tweaks. Let us know how you go. Can't help you with the wheat free bread question but I'm sure someone else will.

Welcome to the forum Berpsie.Great to her that you are having fun cooking with your new TM.We all have had good and bad results when first using the TM but this forum is a great resource for information if you are having trouble.

Hi and welcome Berpsie. I've always had trouble with the EDC chocolate cake too. I prefer the recipes on here.

maybe your tin was too big? or did you use SR flour and if using the Plain flour did you add the baking powder & cream of tartar?

Hello and welcome Berpsie,
after my first failure (porridge from the EDC) I have made a point of checking here first and you will usually find any ammendments and/or advice about the recipes from the EDC and other cook books or a better version etc.
All the best and it is a lot of fun learning along the way

Welcome to the forum Berpsie. Most of us had some failures. Keep trying using the recipes on the forum or checking out the reviews. I'm sure your next attempt will be great!!!

Welcome berpsie,
I find that I will more likely try a recipe that has lots of positive feedback before I will try anything else. I'm getting more confident now I have noticed and am happy to try other recipes from recipe books because I know my TM and what speeds to use etc. I have had flat cakes and cakes that overflow the tin. You soon learn from failures and tweak them or try another similar recipe. Hope you enjoy yourself with your new TM.

Hi and welcome to the forum, Berpsie. I always use the choc cake which Judy indicated on the link - absolutely wonderful - in fact made 2 today, one as 24 muffins and a slab cake to give to a busy friend. Be sure to continue posing questions and any issue you may be having with thermie!

Will try Judy's chocolate cake recipe. I have persisted though. I made the Banana and Date loaf recipe and that was a little stodgy in the middle too but very nice. Have just made the carrot one and not hopeful that it hasn't sunk as well but should still taste nice. Am desperate to make a cake that doesn't flatten out! Made the porridge once and wasn't impressed with that either so no doubt will have to fiddle. I am having a lot of fun trying though and the bread rolls have gone down a treat with the family.

is a nice cake too berpsie. Have you put a thermometer in your oven to check that it is running at the correct temperature, maybe that is why the centres don't seem to be cooked and they are not rising correctly. Glad to hear your rolls are successful. How are you main meals going?

Something is not working properly by the sounds of it. maybe a bad back of self raising flour? or oven temp not correct? I cook everything at a low temperature in my oven (150) It takes longer but everything cooks beautifully. I had to adjust the Temp as my oven has a hidden element in the bottom and would burn the bottom of everything at 170 +. Hopefully you will have a success with the cakes rising and cooking evenly soon.

Well, my oven is only new and should be cooking on the right temp but I may have not cooked them enough. I am really happy with most things but I found that if you forget to put the heat on when cooking potatoes it isn't very successful
I am using it every day which is amazing for me! The carrot cake is amazing which made me happy. The only meal I have made so far is risotto and soup. I will get a bit more adventurous this weekend

I have had that problem as well Berpsie, Yesterday I forgot to turn both dials for my oven (One is for the temperature and the other is to choose between Grill or oven) and had somethings ready to serve up and other things still uncooked. Grrr Ive done this a few times. Stupid oven.

have had my oven for 2 years and only had a piece of paper with minimal instructions to work things out. when we have had disasters its been because as we have been wiping down the outside we have moved the oven setting to something absurd like grill and didn't know it, or (should I admit this?) I have been cooking on the Pastry setting mostly over this period -- I thought it was a fan forced oven setting as that is what the dial thingo translates to for me
NB: I know I can probably look up more instructions on the internet but I probably spend more time on the forum than I should and therefore I haven't had time
