Basic or Varoma demo?
«
on:
June 23, 2011, 04:58:00 am »
Just recently I've had a number of friends and work mates who have been asking lots of questions about the Thermomix so I have decided to have another demo.
The group will mainly consist of 30 somethings who are looking to be able to make healthy food from scratch mixed in with some who want to be able to make good quality meals for them and their friends.
I've had both demo's but I'm interested in which demo others think is the best one to go for with this type of group. I just wish there was a combination!

I'd say a regular one.
The varoma wasn't all that good for us, and I've heard the same from others!

As you would know, LoveMyThermo, the Varoma is more effort on the part of the host - you have to provide heaps of the ingredients compared to the basic and I usually explain to the host that so everything goes smoothly I will also need help with the cooking/washing, so that might factor into your decision.
The Varoma is a bit more 'gourmet' (sundried tomato/cashew/capsicum dip instead of hommos, rosemary/garlic Pizzziola instead of bread rolls), and obviously there is a focus on the multi layer ability of the TM. (soup cooks while the chicken/pumpkin steam).
Either demo is going to show off the TM to your friends. I have done the Varoma for people who have never seen TM before with great response.
Sorry you did not enjoy your V demo Lee – most consultants are very familiar with the basic demo recipes as that is the one we do most of, and the V demo is a bit more complex in terms of cooking, so they may just not be so familiar which can make it a bit more difficult. I bring my own bowl and blade so we have 2 at the demo and ask my host to help me out a bit more too.
If your friends are into dinner parties and entertaining the V demo is very impressive, for good old back-to-basic cooking go the basic.
I hope you all have fun and enjoy whichever way you go!

I'm currently thinking of having a Varoma demo just now as well, but also feel that a combination one would be great for guests. I would love the Varoma one simply for myself, but I don't think that that's the way the system works, unfortunately, and I'm not sure that the Varoma demo is as good an introduction to the TMX as the basic demo. Leaves me in a bit of a quandary as I am not sure I could rustle up enough people for the V demo as I could for the basic demo. Ah well, we'll see what happens.
I know, via this forum, there is a more experienced TMX user who lives relatively close to me (well, c. 20 - 30 minutes away) but have never been in direct contact so not sure, if we joined forces, whether that could work for the V demo.

If you have already had a basic demo Cuilidh you shouyld definatly have a V demo... That is the whole point of the v demo - it is theu customer journey we want you to go on - it ispart of the service your consultant offers you... Don't worry the guests will be fine with either one - if it is their first introduction to the TM - then great! - they can hold their own 'basic' demo' and see a whole new menu!

I feel the basic demo showcases the machine better than the Varoma one. Perhaps after seeing the basic demo friends that were into cooking and not sure could come to a Varoma demo before they buy.

I say go with the basic demo! If people are at all skeptical about the fact that the machine can save you time and trouble in the kitchen, the basic one is the one that will take care of that argument. By doing the Varoma one, they will have to grasp all the basic concepts plus even more concepts and it might be more than they want from a fun evening out.
One thing about our friend the Thermomix is that it really sells itself, right? This is the magic that happens in the basic demo.
um... maybe I should mention here that I've never been to a demo
but I have read a thing or two about them...
and I DO know some REALLY FUN people who are demonstrators

Thanks for your comments everyone. I think the basic demo is the way to go.
I do remember from my Varoma demo that it was quite expensive - the half price cookbook barely covers the cost of the demo to the host.

The Varoma demo always has the offer for getting your hands on the FSA cookbook (not available any other way), but for June it is also 1/2 price Travelling w TM ($30 1/2 - also only available as a host incentive) - that's for holding ANY demo in June.
They havn't announced the July offers yet!

You've already made a great decision with the basic demonstration. It's easy for you as the host and it shows off the features of the Thermomix really nicely. Remember you're friends haven't seen it before and they won't know either menu. They can always host a Varoma demonstration if they decide to buy a Thermomix. Now to just sit back, relax and enjoy your demonstration.
