l like to sew its one of my many hobbies
and l get a great thrill that l have made it myself  and also l like it when people comment on what l made
and l proundly tell them l made it myself
but l am careful who l give my handmade stuff too as some people dont like handmade stuff [ they think l took the cheap way out  only if they knew , half the time it cost more than if you were to buy it ]

People who don't appreciate handmade gifts are a mystery to me.  Most of my friends and family prefer handmade gifts, whether crafts or food.  One year when I was ill I wasn't able to do my usual holiday baskets and some people let me know that while they certainly understood, they were disappointed.  That made me feel good about my efforts.

yes judy if l make one l will take a photo but cant see me doing it any time soon

atm l am trying to finish my 12 year old sons l spy quilt that l started before he was born  but had to
change it a few times because he is growing up before l had a chance to finish it
he has chosen the fabrics over the years and last winter 2010 we started it  he has sewn up some squares himself .
we dont have a pattern we just sewn up the materials in to different size squares  and will join together to make a big quilt
we are about half way but l cant see me doing again until after christmas and  school hoildays
then by 2 son will want one so  hopefully he will get one before he turns 10

I love it nazar. That is just the sort of thing I would be doing. I have a couple of embroidery things on the go and my plan is to give them to DD when she builds her house. She has had the block for 18 months now and is saving for the house but I've done very little on them. (I'm too busy on here or cooking :P)

I have about 3 quilts  and one wool embroidery blanket all waiting for me to get back to them. maybe when I retire. ;D one I started for DS 26 when he was 12.  :o

I child-proofed my house, but they still get in!

Sounds like you have all been sidetracked by something - mmm, wonder what that could be  ;)

Finally arrived - I have it permanently in the top garage, was able to find the perfect spot with right sized everything - thought keeping it in the box would prevent any dust etc each time garage is opened.  Now for the icecream - yum!!!!

two or three years ago I replaced it with a deBuyer mandolin that is much easier on my shoulder and elbow - the action is different.
I slice a lot of ginger for candying and for me it is easier than using the Cuisinart.

Andi, I'm looking into the De Buyer Professional mandolin at the moment.  Have read so many good reviews.  The pusher looks a lot more 'safe' than the Borner V-slicer I use at the moment, though I think buying a mesh glove might be a good idea too.  :D
The optional long pusher looks like a good idea for carrot sticks etc.  ;D
