Cookie, I am a bit confused ... do you mean you use maize cornflour for thickening in place of 'regular' cornflour, or as a replacement for icing sugar?

Instead of sprinkling icing sugar on your goodies to look nice, which then dissolves, you use maize cornflour to sprinkle and make them look nice. It doesn't dissolve like the icing sugar does.

Went to Wilson’s to stock up on Fruit and veg.  They have a new product.  Boxed up mixed veggies for $5 or $8. They are supposed to be seconds but looked good to me. Each box was different.  You could pick one that contained what you would normally buy.

It certainly does. I find good fruit and veggies are quite expensive. Good on you Chookie.

This is not the usual shopping Gem.   Yesterday we attended the Swap at Creswick.  They are a lovely group of people.   I took the usual SD crumpets and a jar of SD starter. They also have the community Wholefoods Shop open .  This shop sells mostly Australian organic products.
Yesterday they asked me if I was interested in a 20 K bag of nearly out of date Biodynamic Organic Bread flour.  It cost $80 and I could have it for $50. I was very pleased to get it as the price of good bread flour has sky rocketed. It will be used up very quickly.  At the moment I am making about 80 Crumpets a week as well as a loaf or 2.

What a bargain Chookie. I totally agree with the price of bread flour rising. I paid about $5 more for my 10kg bag the other day. I was hoping to be able to get some when I went out to European Foods the other day but I didn’t really like the brands they had. Laucke have put me onto another place I may be able to buy some.
I overheard DH telling a car club friend the other day that our bread alone would have more than paid for our thermomixes.

Cookie, I would have to agree with your DH about paying for the Thermo.
I have found that adding a teaspoon of Improver helps the cheaper bread flour,  but still not as good as Laucke. Some of the cheaper flour is imported from NZ and mixed with Aussi flour.

It will be interesting to hear how long that 80 kg bag of flour lasts you Chookie, please write a date on your bag so that you can tell us.  I had trouble getting through a 10 kg bag in the 6 years DH was in a nursing home, threw it out eventually and bought another one.  Why I don’t know!
