My great contribution to the shopping thread today was ingredients....Coles had fresh Poblano and Serrano Chillies for sale (also Jalapeno's but I've seen those before).  I've always wanted to try stuffed poblanos but have never been able to buy them fresh (I've tried growing them with no success).  I'm going to try planting fresh seeds straight from the chillies to see if they are more sucessful.

On a different note, anyone been into Spotlight lately..have a look in the appliance section...Mistral have released another imitator, I couldn't see a price on it.

This arrived yesterday, from Appliances Direct Online.. Richard is more excited about it than me - I think he's been watching to many UK cooking shows on a Foxtel!

I have an open mind about it, it might be a good way to cook or it might be a step to far for me. Very busy this weekend, so not sure when we will use it.

The indian book has great recipes, wish it had a few more pics.  We love the tikka paste and butter chicken.

Yes it came with a recipe book, but I haven't really looked at it.

Spur of the moment purchase from an email advising it was on special. Richard has wanted one for ages. It might be fun playing with it.

Stock up on cheap cuts of roasting meats Katie, they sous vide brilliantly. pork or lamb shoulder cooked for 12 to 24 hours becomes incredibly tender.  I've also done meat straight from Coles or woollies in the vacuum seal bags that they come in.  I have a piece of butterfly lamb sitting in the fridge that I will put on tonight for lunch tomorrow, I'm not bothering to rebag it.  I've also made feta cheese in mine by sitting a plastic container in the water bath. It worked beautifully to hold the milk at the right temperature.

I have been interested in this method of cooking too, but am worried about cooking in the plastic vac seal bags.  Does anyone know how safe it is?

I bought one Katie and returned it. Cooked scotch fillet steaks and they were disgusting. We might have done something wrong but I did follow the instructions. Good luck and let us know how you go.
