Medusa - depends where you are.  Here in Oz we pay more for books than in the US. I find the new releases that I get vary from $9 to $12 ish, which is still loads less than a paperback here.
Australian authors on Kindle were thin on the ground a couple of years ago , but I'm finding that they are now getting on to the ebook list very quickly - especially the well known ones.
I was concerned about the reading experience on these devices initially, but often found that when I went to turn the page my hand wandered up to the top right hand corner of the Kindle.  That suggested to me that my brain was still experiencing it as a book.  Even now, after using it for some years, I still find my hand doing that instead of clicking on the button!

Amanda is the newer model much different to your original kindle.  I know the model which I have had since last Dec is a little different to that of a friend who had purchased 12mths previously.  :)

Smaller, thinner and allegedly faster, although I haven't read anything on it yet.
In the interests of marital harmony, I have bought the cover with a light in it and can't wait to try that out.
I loved my last Kindle to bits - I'm sure this one will make me just as happy.

I'm thinking about the food vac and have been looking into the Sunbeam Foodsaver, and waiting to hear more feedback from those who bought the other brand. The drawback about the Sunbeam is the cost of the bags. Then I have to think about whether I am REALLY going to use this often (you girls are a very bad influence)

I had the Sunbeam one it was a lot harder to use than the one I just bought from ebay. Quite often it would take 3 -4 goes for it to vacuum seal. In the end it got put in the cupboard, the new one cant remember its name lives on the bench, and the family make fun of me vacuum sealing everything. We arnt wasting left over food, the avocado half was as fresh as if I had  just cut it open.
I child-proofed my house, but they still get in!

Kathryn, sounds like me. i don't do dishes either.

When my dishwasher broke down, i just rang up and ordered a new one.

At least I use it twice a day.

Mine's 8 years old fundj, only had them out a few times but I think it is nearing the end of it's life and I don't like the chap who comes to fix it so will buy a different brand next time on the strength of that. Even DH thought he was ignorant.

Having to replace the security system tomorrow - our old one carked it a few weeks ago.

Won't mention the problems with the oven at the moment  :'( :'( >:( >:(
