those apparently were not ice cubes getting crushed!
« on: July 19, 2011, 10:08:30 am »
 :'(
I just got my beloved tmx. My 25 year old son wanted to make a huge cup of iced coffee in it. He took the  monster mug filled it with milk, added sugar and left the teaspoon in the cup, hidden in the milk... I was a bit shocked at how much noise ice cubes make whilst getting crushed. Alas, it was the teaspoon. The new blades a bit jagged-just a bit. I know I can get a new blade but  does anyone have any idea if I must? Also, even though I told him to toss the iced coffee, he drank it. I found tiny grains of stainless steel at the bottom of his cup in the sink. Is this dangerous? I tried googling it all with no luck. I guess we are the only dummies. :'(

Oh No Ilana  ???. From what I have heard you are not the first TM Owner to have this happen. I would suggest you contact your consultant or HO to find out the best thing is to do. Do the blades still run smoothly or are they off balance or make a funny noise? Teaspoons and TM blades just don't mix well at all.

oh my goodness..not only he did it but he drank it too...I would be ringing HO re the blades or at least get your consultant to look at it as I guess it woud depend how badly they are bent etc and if it does anything to your machine then that could void the warranty...as far as your son drinkig it with metal bits in it hrrmmm..I would probably ask a doctor but I imagine once wouldnt hurt but definately not to repeat  :D...good luck and hope your get your answers.

He told me that it is probably okay. I guess I need to use it to try. I was so sad that I could not get myself to use it-so far it has been 3 days of me staring at it! Perhaps I should try grinding something like dry humous beans-which are quite hard.
Thank you so much for the fast responses!

You poor thing, can't imagine how you must have felt. On another note, what a machine!

OMG. I would have had a fit. How disappointing for you Ilana. Just saw someone blend a blade from a stick blenderr in a food processor and I felt sick to my stomach thinking of my TMX. Hope it all works out for you.

Don't get discouraged Ilana, Give it a go and start cooking all those items you want to make. The TM is a pretty tough machine.

Not really Ilana, just make sure that you give it a good rinse so it all goes down the sink  :D

No worries about him drinking/eating metal pieces they will come out the natural way without problems. Bad luck about the blades if they have dents they will most likely be less good but if they have been crooked they might be unbalanced which is worst when running on high speeds.

Hi Ilana, firstly welcome to the forum.  What a way to start, I would hate to hear the noise it made - ice is bad enough but a metal spoon must have been pretty hard on the ears.  The balance thing may be the problem and the only way to find out is to use it as the girls have suggested.  Good luck, hope everything is OK. Feel sorry for your DS too, he must have felt terrible.

wow-thanks all and for the welcome! I "hid" my fit as I saw how absolutely awful my son felt. Mistakes can happen, right? I am so scared to try, but I will-perhaps I will start with ice-sound safer. ON the other hand I may just get the new blade and finish with this episode. But first I will try the ice. I am glad it is not dangerous to swallow-that was my worry-stomach getting cut and all sorts of imaginations mothers have.... ;D

okay so I gathered courage and crushed ice for 20 seconds on speed 10. It made a rather big noise for about 5-8 secs and then hardly any. I thought I would open it to find evidence of bad blades. I found white snow. Is this how it should be?

Sounds good.  Now chop a quartered onion for 2 sec/speed 5 - something a little quieter.
