Grapefruit recipes and other uses
« on: August 11, 2011, 04:48:53 am »
I have been given two big bags of grapefruit, the bitter yellow type, now I need ideas of what to do with them! It's freezing here at the moment so I won't be making any sorbet! Thanks in advanced :)

I had 2 large ones given to me recently ahoney and I just googled 'things to do with grapefruit'. Plenty of ideas on the net.  I ended up making grapefruit & poppy seed muffins and a grapefruit & gin cocktail but then found out you should not eat grapefruit if you are taking Lipitor so I got rid of all the muffins (the cocktail was nice though  :-)), only had 1before I found out I shouldn't).  I believe there are a few medications you cannot have grapefruit with.

Think I will try marmalade! So far havn't done anything exciting with them, DH has been making lots of grapefruit 'lemonade' and I've been squeezing it in my water, surprised how many we have gone through just doing this!

Apparently if you scoop out the flesh and place them face down in the soil where you have slaters the slaters will all be attracted to it and in the morning lift it up and dispose of said slaters by scooping them up and doing what you will with them :) not a tip for eating but a tip for the left overs lol

I'm bumping this thread because I have quite a few grapefruit and don't know what to do with them all!  We don't really eat marmalade so looking for some other creative ideas.

I am liking the sound of grapefruit lemonade though so might see if google can come up with a recipe
