I've found these suggestions on the net:

Use for KindlingDried orange and lemon peels are a far superior choice for use as kindling than newspaper. Not only do they smell better and produce less creosote than newspaper, but the flammable oils found inside the peels enable them to burn much longer than paper.
Make a Pomander Pomanders have been used for centuries to fill small spaces with a delightful fragrance as well as to combat moths. They are also incredibly easy to make. Take a bunch of cloves and stick them into an orange, covering the whole surface. Now suspend your pomander using a piece of string, wool or monofilament fishing line inside a wardrobe or cupboard, and it will keep the space smelling fresh for years.
Fill your abode with a refreshing citrus scent by simmering several orange and/or lemon peels in 1–2 cups of water in an aluminum saucepan for a few hours. Add water as needed during the simmering. This process freshens up the pot as well as the air in your home.
Keep Cats Off Your LawnAre the neighbour’s cats still mistaking your lawn for their litter tray? Gently point them elsewhere by making a mixture of orange peels and coffee grounds and distributing it around the cats’ ‘old haunts.’ If they don’t take the hint, lay down a second batch and try moistening it with a bit of water.
Show Ants the DoorGet rid of the ants in your garden, on your patio and along the foundations of your home. In a blender, make a smooth puree of a few orange peels in 1 cup of warm water. Slowly pour the solution over and into anthills to send the little pests packing. Repeat the process if they return.

- orange poppyseed cake
- orange and coconut slice
- orange juice/orange icies
- cordial
- Marmalade
- duck orange
- fruit cake
- screw drivers (get plastered and cook)
- give them away

Amanda someone has it on their blog, will see if I can find it - no promises though (thinking maybe Farfallina even ???)

as for the oranges we love to just peel them and blend them with a handful of ice, then freeze for the summer. Fill a glass with cubes and then top up with sparkling mineral water - yummo

otherwise citrus curd (I think on tenina.com for that one)

will put my thinking hat on, as the others have listed what comes straight to mind  :D

thanks for digging this out, Judy.
It is impossible to buy crystallised peel now and doing it on the stove is a long drawn out process. I hadn't thought of using the microwave.  :-))

Amanda, I do the boiling of the peel in the TMX,  In large chunks.  Reverse Varoma, "1/2 speed
When soft, strain,  scrape out the messy bit on the inside of skin.  Drop skin back into bowl and zap for a couple of seconds.
Boil equal amounts of sugar and water in large flat pan and place peel into simmering liquid. Simmer until most of liquid evaporates.
cool and bag for freezer.

I do this once a year.

The peel is that leftover from squeezing for juice,  cut into 1/4s.

LeeJ, you could freeze oranges for summer sorbets... (better since you'd need less ice).

CreamPuff, the kindling idea sounds interesting over an open fire.  Re fire starter I currently recycle our used teabags (dried and soaked in methylated spirit).

Achookwoman, I love "orangettes"- crystallised orange peel dipped in dark chocolate.  I'll have to give the TMX method a go! :)
