Yoghurt that wont set ;-(
« on: September 05, 2011, 02:47:52 pm »
Hi, I have made up a batch of yoghurt but it wont set after almost 5 hours in the thermosaver. Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether I can save it and fix it, or what I could try next time to make sure it doesnt happen. Thanking you

Jaz hi,

If you search for yoghurt in the main part of the  forum it will come up with lots of threads on yoghurt setting etc etc. I used to leave mine overnight when I used the thermoserver. It could be your starter or the temp of your milk. Lots of variables. Maybe freeze the yoghurt in ice cube trays to use in smoothies?

I allow my yogurt to incubate at least 8 hours, usually longer.

Do read through the main yogurt thread

at least 12 hours here as well - make it in the early evening and ready for the fridge the next morning. The thread that has been mentioned already is great and will answer a lot of questions

yes it needs to be at least 8 hours but more 12 to 15 and the lighter the yoghurt the longer you need to set it and it also depends on the base yoghurt you use..sometimes its best to use either a starter the first time round or presure (a liquid bacteria they use over here for yoghurts and cheeses which gets it all going)...

good advice re read the thread..it will give you everyones experience and questions...also its quite important that once you put the yoghurt in its container to be set it should not be moved and should remain still...
