Oops......Thermomix Mistakes
« Reply #510 on: September 11, 2012, 03:58:38 am »
Well last night, we decided to have salad with tea.

DP who is not at all convinced that the TM is worthwhile, mentioned about trying the TM to make some coleslaw. Well in my excitedness that he was willing to give the TM a chance, I forgot the EDC had a step by step recipe for coleslaw. I used the the Turbo button......result was from too chunky on the first check to resembling KFC colesaw on the second, but the taste was not the best for coleslaw, i think there was a little bit too much pureed veggies to, so in went a bit more hand cut cabbage and hand cut apple to try to "chunk it up" a bit.

LESSON TO BE LEARNT: Only use the Turbo button if you want four or pureed,
Chopped = 4

What other mistakes have people made and what is the lessons you took from it??

Hi Vanessa
I used to ALWAYS forget to reset the heat button after stopping to "have a look" i think when you are new you tend to want to peek into the machine to see how it is going.

I have made both errors, half cooked chicken (whole chicken ) and coleslaw mush. Both errors in the 1st month (plus some more) but pretty fool proof now :-) It is just a new way of doing everything. My husband has forgotten the early disasters I'm sure.

I never get coleslaw right.  I always over chop it.

I find I always have to chop the carrot a bit first otherwise the consistency is wrong.

If you chop the carrot to consistent sizes and put it in the bowl FIRST then everything on top you will have success ;)
