Pantry and Freezer Challenge
« on: October 15, 2011, 03:30:03 am »
Don't know whether it's because there are spring showers outside washing the world clean as I write, but I have a yen to cook up ingredients that are looking unloved in my cupboard and feezer.  Anyone want to join me and we can report back with any tadas and menu sharing to make it warm and fuzzy, as befits this forum.  :)

Made the Pate using Gert's recipe.  Very nice,  then some fresh bread to have with it.  Made some butter from Cream that I had in the freezer,  Will use it in cooking, also the 2 cups of buttermilk from the butter.

First I want to put in a plug for farfallina's wonderful Lentil and Red Bean Soup, which I made yesterday solely from pantry ingredients.  We really enjoyed it.

Today made up walnut sauce, which used up a large bag of nut leftovers.

Also made sago puddings.  It took a while, but it was worth it, and thank you to JD for the recipe on this thread, which was my inspiration.  I find sago is one of those ingredients that sits in the cupboard and looks unappreciated, whereas in fact in the Thermomix, it is not difficult to cook.

Still have to do something with dates.

Thank you to all those who have responded.  It feels good to check in the pantry and freezer and see what is actually there.   :o

:) I made a curried mince for dinner with lots of veges from the pantry.

Also, a large casserole which is in the slow cooker, using up the veges in the fridge.

Now i just got given 18 fresh eggs, so off to make quiches.

Nazar, that book is from Simplesavings.com.au website.

We had a slow cooker meal last night so I put all the tired vegies into that, also some chick peas that were in the pantry and a tin of tomatoes. Great gravy.
I found some sago too, (thanks cecilia) and tonight we're having sago pudding.
Quite a few of my things are in the pantry but are used regularly. eg rice, flours etc. I do have some sorghum flour that was given to me at my last sourdough class and I don't know what I should use it for. Does anyone have any thoughts please?

Where is the recipe for the sago pudding? I even tried googling it but came up empty handed.

Sago & Tapioca pudding recipes here. I think this may be the one Cecilia was referring to above.

Thanks for the link JD. You always seem to be able to find things no-one else can.
