Problems with Thermomix??
« on: October 20, 2011, 07:02:40 am »
Thought I would go straight to the experts & people in the know.

I have a friend who went to a demonstation last night and was very concerned that the TMX only has a 2 year warranty. She thought that considering the price & how fantastic the demonstrator told her it was kit should have a life time warranty like Tupperware.

Has anyone had any major problems? Do you think the 2 year warranty is enough?

Thanks in advance for the advice.  :)

I'm certainly happy with a 2 year warranty Shanmac - if you have manufacturing problems, they will generally show up fairly early in the life of a TMX.  It is no different with other appliances including fridges, TV's etc.  You can't really compare tupperware to the Thermomix, there are no moving parts in tupperware bowls - a TMX is a little more complex.  My 2 year warranty was up 12 months ago - in the first 2 years I only had one problem in all that time and from now on, I am happy to pay whatever is required to keep my machine going.

As an afterthought, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea if TMX had an extended warranty that you pay for as you do with other electrical appliances.

I actually thought the 2 year warranty was pretty good considering it is a machine. Other expensive things eg tv, computer etc only have a 1 year warranty.

I have a gold card and based on what the pds was when we got our card the extended warranty was for UP TO 12 months.
Therefore if you purchased an item that had a 3 month warranty they would extend it to 12 months.  It didn't mean that if you have a 2 year warranty they would give you an extra 12 months.

I could be wrong but it wasn't happened before.  LOL

Most "expensive" household items people buy have a standard 2 year warranty.  Take a fridge for example, it is running 24/7, a washing machine, tv, computer.  These items are being used way more continuously than a Thermomix, so I think a two year warranty is very reasonable.

Do we buy German fridges, washing machines, tv's etc, I would say not.  Most of these are made in China or the like.

Buy a BMW or buy a Hyundai and take the risk, at the end of the day, you get what you pay for.  A Thermomix, in my opinion, truly is the BMW in the kitchen, he (Thermie) has changed my life and would not and could not live without him.

He still has 18 months warranty to go, I am still making, experimenting and creating food I would NEVER have thought of, or been able to do without Thermie.  After six months I still look forward to playing with him.  If anything happened to him, I would get another one, immediately without any hesitation whatsoever.

If you're unsure, google other kitchen forums, perhaps they're out there, that might help you compare say, for example a kitchenaid.

All the best with your decision making!!!

Extremely interesting discussion.  It is funny how Tupperware has a lifetime warranty though.  And literally, you can give your demonstrator any old dead piece of Tupperware and they will replace it.  Amazing.

A two year warranty is great.  Sadly, we do not get to pay by gold or platinum cards here in Germany, only by direct bank transfer so the extra warranty does not apply here.  Our new Audis only come with a three year warranty and cost a zillion times more than Thermie did.  With use, things wear out.  I'm 33 and I'm not getting any younger and my warranty, according to my Mom is well over now.  She couldn't exchange me and believe me, there have been occasions when she has tried!

Poor Lee, I'm sure she wouldn't you know.  Where would she get her laughs from if you weren't around.  Just tell her next time she threatens to swap you, there are any amount of 'mothers' on the forum who would adopt you  :-*
