How does a Thermomix help larger families?
« on: October 21, 2011, 04:48:53 am »
Hi everybody.  I'm a fairly inexperienced Thermomix demonstrator so I'm always very grateful for the support I get from this forum.

Thinking of the needs of two prospective customers of mine has prompted me to search for the answer to the question I've posed in the subject line.

I thought there's be a thread for larger families on here but I couldn't find one, so starting again.

One of the people I'm thining of has five children, including several older teenagers.  She loves the Thermomix, but can't see it being of immediate benefit until a couple of the older kids leave home.

Another has four very young children.  She isn't worried about the capacity of the bowl.  She's just weighing up how it might benefit her now and in the future.

I can well understand people holding back if they haven't had a chance to actually use the Thermomix themselves to realise how much help it would be.

So if you know whatit's like to be be under the sort of pressure these Mums are, pleae feel free to share.

Quirky Jo's story here is well worth reading Cecilia.  Others with larger families will be sure to add to this thread.

Cecilia this is said tongue in cheek.
They need a thermomix so they can cook up lots of pasta and rice to fill the teenagers up. :D

This is a really interesting thread.  My friend said no to the TMX as she has 5 kids.  The demo with the risotto was what turned her off.  She knew that that wouldn't be enough to feed her family.

There are 5 in our house.  We have 3 boys aged, 15, 13 and 8.

I regularly make 2 kgs of mashed potato in the TMX and steam the broccoli and carrots at the same time.  The insert basket also makes more than enough rice for our family and if I had guests I'd just put a second batch on.

Apart from risotto, I don't make whole meals in the TMX, I use it as a kitchen hand.  When I cook bolognaise sauce or chilli beef I do them in a 6 litre pot on the stove but if I didn't have the tmx for the onions, carrots, zucchini, eggplant, spinach, garlic etc that I hide in the sauce I'd never bother making it.

It's also great for teenagers making themselves something to eat when you're not home.  I don't let them use the oven or stove but they are allowed to use the TMX to make, pasta, custard, risotto etc.

Lee that sounds like a wonderful idea.  When the family come for a meal, I have to cater for 8 adults and 2 grandchildren.  I mainly use thermie for prep work and mixing on those days.
Never ask a 2 year old to hold a tomato  :-)

If I think there is not enough to feed everyone, thermie is so quick it can make another batch of whatever it is in a very short space of time! I always have plenty of meals frozen now too, and other snacks, because I can easily whip up several meals on days I have time and freeze them.

Cecelia I don't have time to give a detailed comment at the moment, in the midst of 7 demos and 2 funerals in 9 days  :o :o everyone in my house is wearing a GPS so if they get lost in the mess I can find them  :o :o :o

I have 5 kids, 3 are teenage boys (20,18,17) and then a 6yo boy that eats like his brothers and a 4yo girl plus DH and I.

I use my TMX for all manners including cooking complete meals for us all.

I will try and get back to this in the next couple of days when I can BREATHE!!!!!  :D :D :D
