iPad thermomix apps
« on: October 21, 2011, 09:23:56 am »
I decided to treat myself to the thermomix apps Id wanted for a while.  I thought others might be interested to hear how Ive got on with them.

My hands down favourite is Recipe Explorer.  It took me a while to get into it, as I was disappointed at first thinking it was a bit limited.  But no - the trick lies in tapping through to the website, which you can then browse at leisure and easily save the recipes you like to be available via the app at any time.  Love it!!  I mainly use this for thermomix recipes, but I have also added some slow cooker sites as you can add as many blogs as you like, and once the blog is added you can tap through to its website and save recipes to your hearts content.

The official thermomix app has the potential to be superb, but it is limited in its usefulness at the  moment.  Once we can add a genuinely useful number of recipes, and preferably our own content too, then it will be fantastic.

I have deleted recipe finder from my ipad, as I personally didnt find it useful.

Finally, I quite like  RobotGourmet because it gives me easy accesss to lots of recipes in an easy to find format, and most importantly  makes it easy for me to mark and find favourites.

Given that I use my ipad in the kitchen all the time, I think its telling that I mainly use RecipeXplorer and the MacGourmet app (thanks to Opie for recommending MacGourmet to me).

Finally,

As my picture shows, I've suddenly become younger :-)  DD was of the opinion that her picture should be here, not mine!

Thanks for this info CarolineW - I found it very helpful. I have only downloaded the official thermomix app and found it a bit of a disappointment for the price - although buying the book would obviously have cost a lot more.
I think I will try the other two after reading your post - thank you!

I love Paprika. You can make a folder for Thermomix recipes and then google and add them.  It's really good for all categories - Thermomix or not.

I really like Big Oven app. There is so many great recipes. Although not Thermomix ones but if you are happy to convert them then it's great.

All Recipes (Free) is also a nice enough general recipe app, I spent a bit of yesterday just looking at the food porn. Basically there is a screen where it rotates through pictures from various recipes. Its annoying you have to pay 3.99 to unlock the ability to save recipes you like.

As I don't have the recipe book I keep meaning to pick up the official Thermomix app but I have some serious issues with how it behaves (menu navigation, landscape mode, why didn't they make it an universal app so I don't have to buy 2 copies - one for iPhone & 1 for iPad?) that has put me off so far.

I couldn't decide on Recipe Explorer, it seems like a glorified web browser and I wish it had a trial version to at least get an idea of how it behaves.

Edit:

Epicurious is also a useful general website connected recipe app.
