Recipe of Fondant Icing in the TMX?
« on: October 26, 2011, 07:58:20 am »
Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has a recipe for fondant icing in the thermomix, or marzipan (I think they are similar or the same?!?)

Thanks.

(My friend is thinking of trying her hand at cake decorating and I though I could impress her with the ease of doing something like this in the tmx, but I've never even made it at all before!)

TIA

Thanks Judy, after looking at the recipe I've worked out that marzipan is what is usually put underneath the fondant icing.  I finally found a thermomix recipe for marshmallow fondant icing, if anyone is interested, here is the link:

Hi All

We live remotely and at the moment there are no marshmellows available in our 2 supermarkets. Does anyone have a fondant recipe without marshmellows perhaps?

thanks

I  have decorated cakes for more than 20 years and have only ever bought my fondant icing. I think that most cake decorators buy their fondant icing rather than make it themselves. It can be tricky to work with depending on the weather, so it's easier to buy it ready made. Here is a link for making it yourself, but it isn't a thermi method.[http://thecookduke.com/fondant-recipe//url]

I have made the marshmallow fondant before, but haven't done it in the thermi, although I will try tenia's method next time. I find that the marshmallow fondant is eaten by children, but the ordinary fondant gets left on the plate.

It may be possible to follow Tenia's instructions using the ingredients in the linked recipe. I would love to know how you get on!

These fondant recipes, listed (I haven't checked them out yet) would they be suitable to be used for easter egg fillings or too sweet, I have got some flavours and colours in my cupboard to modify them.   ???

Fondant icing is definitely not marzipan - they are completely different.Marzipan is  an almond/ sugar paste. Both are moldable however.  I too have only ever bought fondant icing and used pure icing sugar to dust the bench to when rolling out and molding the fondant. I have to admit I haven't tried any of the recipe links that Judy has referred to. I would love to know if anyone has made the fondant icing themselves. I don't think I use fondant icing often enough to become adept at making my own.
