Spiral Curry Puffs (A Taste of Asia)

Recipe Name:
Spiral Curry Puffs
Book Name:
A Taste of Asia
Tweaking details:
You may need to adjust the amount of flour and liquid in each dough to get the right consistency - my water dough was a little dry and the oil dough too wet, easily fixed though. Don't refrigerate the dough as the oil dough gets too hard to roll out.
Review:
This is an easy recipe - makes about 36 puffs so I have frozen half the dough for another time. I used the Aloo Stuffing from the Indian Cookbook but any mix of meat or veg would do as long as it isn't too moist.
Score:
5/5 - satisfies my craving for decent curry puffs
As you can see from the photo the result was 'rustic' but tasty

Didn't add egg for the water dough. Most recipes didn't have eggs, so went without.
Increased oil dough to
150 g flour
100g butter
Made my own filling instead of following the book.
Turned out really well. Great dough.
Btw, Mods, the review is not in the recipe review list yet.

What filling did you use BZB? I would like to try these. I would never have attempted them if I had to deep fry them.

We have a craving for decent curry puffs after spending last week in Singapore, in Little India. Sooo yummy!
Be nice to bake and not deep fry, will give these a go.

Yup, sure did Cookie.
Ate far too much good food from hawkers markets, drank not enough icy cold beer starting at lunchtime and we walked miles everyday (hence should have drunk more beer!)
Had one very memorable meal in China Town - boiled frog. It was fabulous! A huge bowl filled with chilli, Szechuan peppercorns, frog, enoki mushrooms and the slipperiest rice noodles that could not be captured without a fight and chilli infused juice going everywhere! (can't get the stains out of the t-shirt I was wearing that night!) The flavours were incredible, the chilli so hot our eyeballs were sweating, the frog was tender and sweet, we used a whole box of tissues that the waitress put on our table dabbing sweat off our brows! Oh yum!
Next morning my hubby came out of the bathroom dancing rather erratically, I had to ask "what are you doing?" his answer "I am doing the dance of the flaming a***h***s!!!"
Yup...it was hot for a while!
I do love Singapore, we were there 8 years ago and it has changed so much in that time. Gardens by the Bay was amazing - if anyone goes to Singapore - go there. Even if you are not a gardener, you'll still love it.

Hi Augusta, it is well worth it. I'd recommend you do it on your own, not via a tour, only because the tours seem to rush you through and you don't have enough time to just sit and look. We wandered at our own pace and it was nice. (We did Jurong Bird Park tour and Night Safari tour and they were so rushed it felt like we were cattle herded on and off the bus, go here, do this, see that, now get back on the bus again...never again!)
To get to the Gardens we got there via a river boat from Clark Quay and then walked across to the Marina Bay Sands, went up to the top and took in the view of Singapore, amazing hotel. It is the one with 3 towers and the 'ship' on top. Then walked underground to the Gardens. The train (MRT) stops there as well.
The MRT (Train) is very easy to use, clean, and if you miss the one you want you only have to wait 3-5 minutes and there's another one. We used the train all the time, not taxi's (although they are cheap). Not much of a view til you get 'out of town' though as it is mostly underground.
If you want any more info - let me know

I love Singapore too Nikkit. I haven't seen the gardens yet maybe later in the year.
We went out to see the casino by train. I love the MRT you can go almost anywhere. We did the night tour of the zoo and felt the same as you. Now we go by train and then sometimes come back by taxi. We found from the Jurong bird park it was so cheap. Almost cheaper than MRT fare for 2. I love the zoo too, and Sentosa. I haven't been out to the Changi war museum yet. We always seem to have so much to do.
I don't think I would try the frog though. I'm a bit of a chicken. I enjoy hot spicy food but up there I have to say I only like mild. I guess that is Aussie hot.
