I've got a batch of this cooking now and it smells divine!  I found a similar recipe in sally wise's book and she uses cloves instead of cardamon - i love cloves so i decided to make it with half cloves, half cardamon.

I'm imagining that this would go great with a griled chicken breast for an easy and tasty dinner

Chookie it smelled so great i don't know how i am going to wait 2 months!

This will sound a little strange but it actually reminded me a lot of Alyce Alexandra's Turkish Tea as i was making it.  Pears (apples), lemons, cloves, brown sugar (honey) etc.  I drink that tea by the litre when I am sick - it is so yummy!  So i can't wait to taste the chutney.

Wow! Chookie this certainly has a kick (well for my taste buds) when I tasted it after it had finished cooking. :D I made three an a bit jars.I did give it an extra 12 minutes of cooking.

Well Chookie you will pleased to know my chutney did mellow and was a perfect partner with cold turkey in a sandwich. :D

Pleased to hear that.  Nice to have something a bit different.  Anything to break the monotony of all that ham.

I have made four batches of this chutney over the past 18 months.
It is a fantastic chutney especially at this time of year with ham and turkey leftovers.
I highly recommend it.

Hmmm so I made this with fresh ginger, but now that I've tasted it (hot from the thermie!) it's got a definate ginger kick!

Sooooo .... what's the difference between fresh ginger, stem ginger, and stem ginger (fresh) ? As it appears that stem ginger is ginger in sugar syrup?

Tastes yummy though - my mum is staying with me and it's a thermie kind of day - beef stock, hommus, this and as soon as I've boiled the water to rinse the jars out (I've already put them through a hot dishwasher) I'll be making quiche, starting with the shortcrust pastry ;)

Kpev,  I use the ginger available from the fruit and veg section at the Supermarket but bottled in syrup or glazed would be fine.

My SIL requested more of this wonderful chutney so I made another batch of this today.I ran out of Chilli flakes so used two dried instead which I added at the beginning with the garlic,ginger and lemon rind. :)
