Shopping List Post Thermomix
« on: January 08, 2012, 08:46:55 am »
We went to Bas Foods in Brunswick (Vic) on Saturday morning to pick up some supplies.

We got:

1kg Sesame Seeds
500g Sunflower Kernels
3kg Arborio Rice
750g Walnuts
500g Linseeds
2kg Chickpeas
12.5kg '00' flour
1kg Buckwheat
500g Quinoa Seeds
Unslalted Cashews
1kg Rye Flour
1kg Peanuts
750g Raw Almonds
1kg Red Lentils
500g Pumpkin Seeds
1kg Black Turtle Beans
5kg Wholemeal Flour
900g Frike
200g Himalayan Rock Salt
1kg Polenta Maize
1kg Polenta Fine.

This is an amazing amount of food for $140.

I've got such as desire now to make things from scratch.

The TMX does tend to have that effect on us - lots of cooking there Chris.

Where is Bas foods, disgruntleddog? I'm only a couple of suburbs away and spending way too much money at Coles lately, think I should check it out. Is it on Sydney Rd?
Melbourne, inner north

Disgruntleddog,  where is Bas Foods.?  I usually go to Ray's Nuts in Hall St. Moonee Ponds.  They have most things I need,  however i see a couple of things on your list that they don't have.  While in Melb., we also go to a great Chinese Supermarket in Racecourse Rd.

It's on Victoria Street, west of Sydney Road.

Fantastic place to shop. They are a major supplier to all of the Middle Eastern Restaurants along Sydney Road.

It's green wheat. We've never used it before. Bought it on a whim.

Sounds interesting.  Farfallina might be able to help with this,

I've used freekah before and love it. It is especially nice in sooups and casseroles.

I love the shopping list Chris. I've never heard of black turtle beans though.

Cookie black turtle bean are a south american bean. They are a true black bean and are fairly small. The whole bean is black unlike the black beans used in an asian black bean suace which are essentially a soy bean with a black spot on them.

I have used them to make black bean brownies.  No flour just the beans sugar cocoa etc. I have not tried making this with the thermomix.  I will have to find the recipe and have a go converting it then I will post it.

I love the Black Turtle Beans.
I have a recipe somewhere for "Turtle Burgers" that I make from time to time.
I horrify my vegetarian friends when I tell them we are having them.
I will have to find it and convert it to use the TC.
It will certainly make it a lot quicker.
They are really yummy and even my DH who loves his steak is very happy to eat them.
