A grater and a slicer!
« on: January 10, 2012, 10:29:43 am »
I love my TMX and find I do not use any other appliance other than a beater. HOWEVER, I do miss not having an electric grater and slicer since I gave away my cumbersome Moulinex! I went to Victoria's Basement thinking I could find a small appliance which fits the bill - but alas to no avail! Any ideas for a product that may cater for my needs? I do not want the ones which practically slice off you finger...mandolin?!!!

I've got a slicer that's exactly like in the link only another brand.  Used it today actually.  I bought a lovely block of ham yesterday (on special after Christmas) and today I sliced it very thin and then vacuum packed in amounts enough for 2 persons and put in the freezer.

How about a Tefal Express.  It's simply a small electric grater and slicer with a variety of different blades.  I'm not good with links, but if you google it, I'm sure you'll find one.  Price around $70 or so.  Looks like a good little thing if you've got lots to do.

I love my mandolin for slicing potatoes, onions etc. For grating, I generally use the Thermomix.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.

I can't go past the Borner V slicer - the safety holder is a must though.  Love the "roko" accessory for a very fine julienne.  Apparently you can also get "cut and slash resistant" gloves from Amazon

The TEFAL mini processor is $79 here

It's free shipping over $100 so just browse around and see if there's something you couldn't ever possibly live without for around $20 ;D ;D

OMG you are bad, very bad people  ;)

Now I think I need one of these mini processors, but I have just convinced DH that I need an ice cream maker and my tupperware slicer is doing the job OK so I better hold off a while before mentioning the food processor

The collective knowledge of this forum amazes me! Thank you  Merrilyn and others. The tefal sounds the way to go. Have you used it and is it easy to use?

My sister bought one of the tefal slicers but ended up returning it after reading reviews that canned it. Apparently the blades aren't sharp enough to do a good job.

I have a tefal slicer and am quite happy with it. I gave my food processor away when I got the thermomix and I like sliced potato, celeriac etc in gratins rather than the grated versions in thermomix.
