Another newbie in central qld
« on: January 12, 2012, 07:51:57 am »
Hi I'm Paula and I've had thermie as I affectionately call him and roma (varoma) since Fri 6th and we have been having a wonderful time introducing ourselves to each other.  Thermie has had only one day off thus far, and that was so I could go online trawling for recipes for them both.   So far I've had them making and cooking omlettes, steak and veggies, choc ripple bikkies, shortbread, curry chicken ( our recipe, still needs tweaking), breakky smoothies, marshmallows, corned beef with a twist will post recipe after outcome, 2 second salad, very yummy that was, homemade mayo and brown rice flour and who knows what else will happen after dinner tonight.  DS birthday party on Sunday so there will be some cooking done for that I will say, looking at honey joys and LTM plus of course the cake/s, oh almost forgot the sorbet made on the first day with some butter.  I'll admit trying to convert current recipes sounds daunting but we'll get there I'm sure.  Anyway that's me DW to DH and mother to a DS6 and a DD2.

Welcome to the forum. You have certainly been busy. Thermie and Roma would have been glad of the day off.

Thanks for the welcome, does or has anyone cooked rice sticks in their TMX yet, as we use them rather than wheat based pasta, will use the left over spaghetti mum left last visit tonight, but would really like some input here.  Normally you just soak it in boiling water for 20 min and it's done, then you add it to your meal however you require it.

mrsmac, have a look at this recipe where rice sticks are cooked in boiling water and not just soaked.  You could therefore do them in the TMX bowl using 1200mls boiling water for 3 minutes on reverse, speed 1.

Thanks everyone cannot wait to trial some recipes and add them on and also modify some of the ones on here to suit our requirements (ds6 is allergic to nuts, so trialling recipes with that ingredient with our substitute of sunflower seeds), btw the the pesto in EDC tasted fine with the sunflower seeds recommend looking at reducing the vinegar by around 1/2 tbsp though it's a bit overpowering.  Thanks judydawn for that recipe will look at cooking them the way you said in thermie when I next cook up a meal with them.

Ok now here is my results with the rice sticks, I actually used 1.5l boiling water, small/med handful of broken rice sticks but put them in the steamer as I couldn't get the vision of rice sticks wrapped around the blades out of my head. :-\. Tried for 3 min/100/speed 3, but DH thought they were still a little undercooked, so when I did DS and DD sticks I did 5min/100/speed 3, and around 1 1/2min in had to reduce temp to 90 so it wouldn't boil through the MC.  They seemed properly cooked and I just rinsed them afterwards to remove any gluggy residue.  Hopefully, if anyone else was wondering that are my results, just remember it isn't for a large serving of dry rice sticks so the time may need to be increased.  Happy cooking  :D
