spatula disintegrating
«

My spatula is disintegrating and it is only 12 months old. It has the nicks and cuts of most peoples spatulas from being used in the TM, but where the handle meets the other part (don't know what that is called - the blade, the flat bit??) the plastic is actually falling off in tiny flecks. This part of the spatula can not physically come into contact with the blades so it is not from use per se.
I tried to ring my consultant, but she hasn't returned my call. I contacted someone closer geographically and she says that they are not covered by warranty because they get damaged by use.
Does anyone have any other answer as I don't believe this is due to use, but some kind of fault with this batch of spatula perhaps.

That certainly looks strange pippa. I would send that photo to H.O. and see what they have to say about it.

That is covered by the warranty. Call the free call number on Monday and tell them about it and they will send you a new one. They may ask you to send a photo but the one you have on your post will be sufficient. Tell them you tried contacting your consultant with no response.

Thanks again Meagan - they were great on the phone, didn't even want a photo or anything and are sending a replacement out. We have decided to only use the new spatula to stir through the top now and use a silicone one for scraping to save all the little bits of plastic we must have ingested over the last 12 months from all the other nicks and cuts.

Pippa did you put it in the dishwasher? If so I suggest not doing that as some detergents are stronger than others.
The nicks are normal the disintegration is not

New spatula has arrived. Thanks again for your advice Meagan. I mostly use Enjo dishwashing detergent, so that shouldn't have caused the problem, but maybe. I am also thinking of handwashing the whole TMX more often than dishwashing it.

I have never put any of the TM parts in the dishwasher. I would much rather hand wash them. Over the years I have seen what dishwashers can do to some items like crack and blister and also fade. Where all these items would never do that by hand washing. Even though it states dishwasher same I would still rather wash by hand.
I tend to put certain things like cups, bowls, glasses and plates, cutlery etc in the dishwasher. And wash by hand pots and lids, plastics etc.

No not normally, I tend to wash out the bowl in running water and wipe the out side. When I pull the blade out I use a teat brush to clean under and around the blades and under the rubber seal thing on the blade as well to make sure I have every thing really clean. I like to treat my TM like a king lol.

I have mixed feelings about treating my TMX so well as in, it cost a lot of money, so i want to be careful with it, but I also spent a lot of money on it to make life easier which to me means being able to just chuck it in the dishwasher IYKWIM - I am feeling a bit frustrated at the moment trying to decide what to do.....

Pippa it is just so easy to self-clean the TMX. Soak the bowl as soon as it is emptied if you want to eat the meal immediately, never leave it sitting there unsoaked. I often do mine immediately though, adding enough warm water to cover the blades, a small squirt of dishwashing liquid and a whizz on speed 4 or 5 for 20 seconds or even less usually does a darn good job. I then dismantle it and clean anything that might be stuck but 90% of the time the self-clean does the job for me and I then just rinse it with fresh water and wipe dry.
