I prefer pressure cooking over slow cooking. It can make things so quickly and yet tastes like it has been cooking away for hours and hours.

I was slightly scared however bought my first electric pressure cooker almost 9-10 years ago and never looked back (just replaced it with a newer model last week).

I bought the New Wave, Matchbox here had it on sale with the stainless bowl. Unfortunately I've had a bit of a fail tonight but hoping it was just that the meat was still frozen in the middle.

all good Maddy. I'm pretty sure the piece of meat was much larger than I orginally thought and that it was still frozen in the middle. I cooked it for a while longer and it was lovely. We have also cooked a lamb curry and that turned out fantastic - We are sold!!

Hi, I am new here so am hoping someone will be able to help, I purchased the 5 in 1 multicooker yesterday and must say I love it so far, but am fearing I am the only person on the planet to have had a failure ???  I cooked the osso bucco that is in the book that came with the cooker, followed it to the letter, but found when I opened the lid it was sitting in a very thin watery sauce, not at all like I expected.  Also the meat was a bit tough, I should have put it on for another ten minutes but I have been reading reviews all day and everyone that has cooked it can't say enough about how beautiful it turned out, any ideas on what may have gone wrong.  I haven't given up, am about to start the risotto as everyone seems to be very impressed with that recipe also.

Were you using the pressure cooking function? The general rule is the less liquid the better for pressure cooking. Maybe there is a problem with the supplied recipe? I don't have the 5 in 1 cooker, only a dedicated pressure cooker so I find the less liquid the better. Also, you don't want to have any more than 2/3 of the bowl volume with liquid.

Sorry, should have said that, yes it was the pressure cooking function.  I did notice that the recipe uses the exact same recipe for the slow and pressure cooking, but then I guess both need only a small amount.  I have never pressure cooked before but have done a lot of slow cooking, this had wine, stock as well as a tin of tomatoes added so quite a bit of liquid, I guess I have read others that followed this recipe and said it was great that I am confused as to how I could possible have mucked it up.  It is entertaining my husband tho ha ha

If the sauce is too liquid at the end you just need to thicken it up like you would conventionally eg cornflour. As long as the meat is cooked through and tastes alright, sometimes if sauces turn out too liquid, whether or not with a pressure or slow cooker, they can be rescued by thickening as you normally would on a stovetop.

I finally gave in and ordered one today.   :-))  I have been looking at them for ages and waiting for Everten to get them back in stock.  Ended up buying from Kitchenware Direct.  They were slightly dearer, but they were in stock and free shipping.   ;)
So many great reviews of this thing and I hope to be able to get rid of several slow cookers and a rice cooker to make room for it  :)

Rosie, don't get rid of your slow cookers. It's hard to find a round one (even though the New Wave is Round) great for Christmas cakes and any cake really. A smaller one for legumes. A bigger oval one for legs of lamb.

The matchbox catalogue in Melbourne this week has the new wave 6 in 1 cooker advertised - they have added a deep fryer function. I was a little disappointed as we will need a new deep fryer soon, I'll wait until mine dies and then looker at the newer model.

Mummywesty, I haven't tried that recipe but from the few casseroles I've cooked so far you really only need a small amount of liquid so maybe the recipe isn't quite right.
