Arli in Perth
« on: January 26, 2012, 12:47:58 am »
Hi everyone, I'm Arli.

I live in the northern suburbs of Perth with my daughter.

I've been eyeing off the TM for a long time now but had never seen it in action. Until 2 days ago I was going to opt for the TC instead. But..... I went to my first TM demo last night and signed up for one then and there. Grabbed a couple of extra recipe books to boot.

Now I just need to wait for my machine and will grab some friends around for a demo in a week or two. I cant wait to try it out, just wish I had my hands on the Everyday book first so I know what to stock my cupboard with first, otherwise I'll be sitting here with a machine and nothing to make with it.

I'm really looking forward to cutting down on the take away meals each week, and get back to healthy cooking again, which has gone out the window since I'm so time poor. It's not unusual for us to eat at 7.30pm which has got to stop. Also hoping the reduction in additives will return my daughter back to me, who is doing a pretty good impersonation of a grumpy teen, when she's only 10. Now if only the Thermie had a delay start function it would be even better ;)

Anyway, that's where this forum is going to come in handy. Its Australia Day, so I am going to kick back, check out some recipes and work out what the first things I am going to make are. Just wish I still had a herb garden, so I guess I'll be off to Bunnings to start a new one.

Hope to chat to some of you soon.

x
Arli

Hi Arli, welcome to the forum.  You will love your TMX and what it can do for you.  Check out this list of what to stock the pantry with whilst waiting for delivery but also find yourself some lovely recipes from this forum and make your own shopping list from there.  CP's favourite list has some wonderful recipes on it - I'd start there first. Also I would suggest you order Quick Fix in the Thermomix which is a great book with pictures for every recipe and well worth buying. A list of links to reviews will be found here. Dinner Spinner is another great little book.  Good luck with returning your daughter to a 10 year old  :D :D

Welcome Arli  :)

Once you've finally decided to get a TMX waiting for it's arrival is agony isn't it!
Plenty of reading here on the forum to get you started and definitely get the herb garden planted, it's so much easier (and cheaper) to be able to pick your own herbs as needed.

Good luck and have fun  :D

Welcome Arli from the other side of Perth. You will love your TMX. I suggest you look up the parts of the forum that Judy has suggested. Spend today under the air con and look through the forum for some of the things you would like to make first and add the ingredients to your shopping list.
You will be able to get your 10 year old involved in making things in the TMX. Perhaps she can do sweets some nights. eg sorbets, custards.
Let us know how your experiences go.

Hello and welcome Arli.
I avoid all nasties in DS diet and t has made a great difference to his behaviour. These school holidays I have only given him Ritalin once (when we had a long drive that day). The thermie defiantely helps me make natural food and it all tastes so much better than pre packaged stuff.

Take care and Happy Cooking

:D Thanks everyone for the lovely welcome.

Thanks Judy for the links to the fav lists. I popped in to the local IGA today and nearly died at how packed it was with people doing their last minute Australia Day BBQ shopping LOL. I turned around and left again.

I thiink I need to apologise to my DD, she's not so bad all the time, but she definatley can be when she's on a roll, and her school work is suffering a little. Actually it was my daughter that put me onto the thermomix. She had stayed at her BF house one night and came home telling me all about this little machine. Then there is a family friends farm she sometimes visits with various family members, and they have one going all the time too. (Actually she's there this week horseriding, poor kid in this heat). So she's been telling me how everyone uses it all the time. I can see us fighting over who is going to make what.

But I can see nothing but benefits ahead, even if my purse is a little lighter for it ;)

Believe me it is truly worth it. My mob now complain that they never get anything bought anymore. (only DD 31 and DH). I actually love making our bread. The tmx takes all the hard work out of it.

I used to make bread in my bread maker all the time when I first bought it (I think it was when they first came out LOL) and it does get a revival from time to time, but its really not that convenient, and the bread isnt all that much to rave about. Cant wait to try out the TM.

Now I have a forum question I'm hoping someone can help me with.... how do you guys save your fav recipe/topic/chat links? Its a little bit more basic here than I'm used to and for the life of me cant work it out. I've found the notification button and where I can find those threads, but is that the easiest way?

And, how do some of you save your recipes you find and fall in love with on here, do you just transpose them to a word or note file and save?  Sorry I know this seems like silly questions, maybe its due to brain damage due to todays heat LOl.

Thanks everyone

Welcome Arli, I'm not as computer savvy as some, so if I like a recipe and might try it I put it in a recipe folder I have created in my favorites on the computer, if I'm going to make it I hand write it and put it in a plastic sleeve of my recipe binder for the TMX.  Some of the members have I pods and apps to do this.  I'm not there yet. :D

Arli, I print out all the recipes I want and laminate those I want to do again.  If you are searching for something on the forum go to the home page and type in what you are looking for.  It doesn't always work so I prefer to use Google and type in what I want there with the word Thermomix after it.  That way you get so many more options, our forum, HO site and logs of blogs.  If you are having trouble finding something, until you get to know your way around the forum, please ask as someone will provide you the link.  It's a very friendly & helpful forum and there will usually be someone around to help you.

Hi Arli

I use a recipe program called MacGourmet - when I see something I like, I just copy and paste it into that exactly as it is. When I actually make it I then get around to splitting all the steps up and making the layout pretty. But to start with I just dump it in there.

Arli I've just started using Evernote. It's free to download and even dodos like me can use it. I copy and paste any recipes I want to try to Evernote. Then after I've made it, if I like it I print it and put it into a file. I guess we all have our own way. I keep mine in a file as I travel in our caravan a lot and then I can take the file.

Thanks for the welcome Denise.

@ Brenda & Judy.... somehow thats what I thought would be the most common way to hang onto tried and loved recipes. I've heard about the RoboGourmet app, which I was told by the reps was simply the international cookbook in app form, but so far it's not been made for android, so that counts me out. One day our time will come.

@ Shan and Cookie, I hadnt heard of MacGourmet (apple?) or Evernote before.  So will have a look at them, thanks. Failing that, I'll just make up a spreadsheet and link everything to it so I can access it offline.

Back to the eyestrain from reading.  :-\
