Cheese and Vegemite Scrolls
« on: January 26, 2012, 01:28:00 am »
Can anyone tell me whether you melt the vegemite to make it more spreadable? and if so, how do you do this?

Thanks

I don't but it does take a bit of time to spread it doesn't it?  Interesting question DG, will watch the replies with interest.

I just spread it on with a spatula  :D

Do you keep our vegemite in the fridge?  I keep mine in the pantry so only a small issue in the dead of winter.  Work it with the spatula or a spoon in a mug or bowl first if you have to - I think I tried melting it with bad results (thats only from memory and would have been about 4 1/2 hears ago :D).

The vegemite I use is from Freedom Foods (gluten free) Vege Spread and I found that it spread quite easily. I have read somewhere on the net that you can mix it with hot water to make it spread easier.

i use a silicon spatula to spread it on. my preference is to use some ground grain in the dough because it adds some nuttiness to the flavour and texture.

If you do mix it with water, don't get it too sloppy as it makes it really hard to roll the scrolls - the dough doesn't stick to itself when you roll it up.  ;)

Welcome Penny11. That is a good idea.

I have never tried this but could you not soften it in the microwave?  Just a though, and welcome Penny11.

I believe Kraft has been messing with Vegemite; my current jar is much 'sloppier' than usual. I think it woud spread quite easily if you used a spatula
