DH and I tried the five spice meatball today..was quite nice just a bit spicy..next time will also use a milder chilli and not add the meatballs to the bowl before the last minute of cooking as I lost about a third to mush but the remaining ones survived....as they are already cooked for me one minute just to coat in sauce would be enough but use the previous five mins to par cook the capsicum or peppers in the sauce..

This is JulieO's review from another thread

December 14, 2011

Tonight I made the Five-spice sweet & sour meatballs, except mine disintergrated in the bowl, all except for 1  .  Didn't matter because it tasted good and it looked like this is how it's supposed to look like anyway

I only left a few seeds in the chilli, but for some reason it was quite hot today, so have made a note for myself to completely deseed next time.  There were a couple more little tweaks to suit our tastes, but was thoroughly enjoyed.
See picture below.

Tenina's comment
And not sure what happened with the breaking up of the meatballs, did you cook them in oven as directed first?

Julie's reply
Tenina, yes I did cook the balls in the oven first, they were quite firm when I put them in the bowl.  I think it may be because I only formed small balls, not a fan of big balls   I think they just couldn't handle the  moving around in the bowl.  No matter it still tasted great, I think next time I will try keeping them warm from the oven and  just add them to the cooked capsicums and sauce at the end of cooking and combine.  They should def stay together then.

Cecilia's review from another thread

We had the same meatball disintegration issue mentioned already despite having read about it before cooking and pre-baking till fully sealed and brown.  The second time we made them we put the capsicum in underneath the rissoles and that did seem to protect them a bit.

I gave this recipe a go the other night and unfortunately all of my meatballs disintegrated as well.

They were actually a little overcooked in the oven as I had the shelf up too high, so I was surprised when they all broke up as they were quite firm beforehand.

yum...especially loved the sauce  :-*

my meatballs were slightly larger than a Tbsp., so baked fully in the oven for 30 mins., then turned oven off and covered with foil and left in there until everything else was ready.  cooked perfectly.
Just spooned sauce over.
.........EAT CAKE!

I made this the other night, but instead of using the steak used 1/2 pork mince and 1/2 beef mince... my boyfriend has raved about them for 2 days solid, so I'll take it that that means they were a hit!! ;D
