Rest up Hally. The shopping thread will be suffering without you.
Maybe I could pick up the slack.

Halex I have the 5 in 1 and use it so far for pressure cooking, I have a fantastic slow cook breville which I still use for my roast. Like you I have always been scared of pc, and would never think of getting one, until I was at a friends house and she had one, it is so simple to use and does all thinking for you, and best of all not scary lol.

Courton I got my 5 in 1 from home deport for $128 plus $2 insurance free delivery , it took about 6 days from ordering to having it in WA.

I can't speak of the electric ones, but everyone who has one on here are very happy with them.

I didn't have any experience with any pc's before I got mine and so was never afraid of them.

The only other thing I can say is, you know how happy we are with our TM's and how we wish we could have had one years ago?  That's how I feel with the pc. At first you think that the food couldn't possibly be cooked in such a short time and then are amazed when you find it is,  and it tastes really good.  I think that was the biggest surprise for me, that the food tasted so good.  For some reason I thought it might have been inferior to cooking the normal way.

It wouldn't take long before you are converting recipes yourself, though you will make mistakes at first.  The other day I converted a Nigella recipe for overnight lamb shanks with figs and honey and reduced both the red wine and water content because it wasn't having a long, slow cook in the oven. I think because there was spiced pureed pumpkin also added to the cooking sauce it thickened up more than I was expecting and I needed to add more water at the end to loosen it up more. I've noted that for next time as it tasted wonderful in only 35 mins of cooking instead of the hours normally.

Of course I'm sure there will be instances where you won't like a certain recipe just like you do with any other cooking method, that's just personal likes and dislikes, but I'm sure once you start cooking this way you will see just how good it is and like me wished you'd had one years ago. :)

I think what is attractive for me is the one button operation. With our fagor pc you have lock into position, wait until button goes down, have high heat, reduce temp when button pops up and steam comes out of nozzle then put timer on for meat or lentils. Please reassure me it is going to be easier than this for my 82 yr old mum.

With my Fagor Duo you lock lid in place, turn to high or low pressure and place over heat.  A little yellow button pops up when pressure is reached, you will then start to get some hissing coming out.  You turn down heat until it is only a little trickle coming out and then start timing from there.  I certainly don't find it a chore but for your mum maybe an elec one is the best option as this is all done automatically.  Like Maddy says, you set it and forget it.

The only reason I didn't get an elec one is I wanted to get one once.  I'd read that many elec ones wear out after a few years and need to be replaced or go through the hassle of trying to get it fixed.  With the stove top ones there's no electrics to worry about and if you get a good brand new lids are available.

Came across Nu Wave cooker in the HOME shop priced at $199! When I told her that the current competitive price was $129 she said she couldn't do anything about it since HO  does the pricing. Looks impressive but BIG!! Thinking, thinking, thinking...

Courton was it the 5 in 1 or the new 6 in 1. The new 6 in 1 has a deep fryer.
The 5 in 1 has come down in price due to it being superceded.

My DS wants a 5 in 1 haven't told him about the 6 in 1. Will give him mine and get a a 6 in 1 for us.
I know you shouldn't deep fry but it tastes so good.
