DH just said, well maybe you shoud tell veryone when
I came home to what loked like a murder scene.
Mmmm well was on a high dose of wharfrin, had some chorizio sausage, needed to take skin off, wasnt looking, sliced finger instead of skin. Mmm ddnt hurt intally, but OMG the blood, it wud not stop. I went from kitchen to lounge to bathroom to bedroom, colecting more & more towes, blood every where, CSI come on down
, phoned Dr told to get stitches, but managed to stop bleeding, about 5ft f towels on fingers, arrm etc. DH & ds came home, ds freaked said did someone shoot you mummy, dh said, what hapeed? I sad jst blood blood blood. All OK but finger still not normal.
Oh the joys of cooking, they shoukd have body part awards

I made this pie when we had friends over for dinner and it was real hit! Mind you, I have loved every recipe from this AMAZING cookbook! I used plain yoghurt, some sugar and vanilla bean paste as all the commercial vanilla yoghurts had too many thickeners/artificial sweeteners for my liking. Because my 5 yo son is GF I used 2 packets of Macadamia shortbread for the base - saved me some time (available at Woolies in the gf section). His comment "I love the 'ground' mum" cracked me up as he won't eat the bickies normally.

Made another this morning.
A colleague at dh's put a request in for this as she loved it so much. She gives me limes & chillis from her garden. So I made it as a thank you.
Made the full amount of base & 1/2 the lime mixture. Also had 55g of lime juice instead of 45g, tastes WOW, now wishing I had made one for us, but not in our budget this week.

So can someone explain to me where I went wrong here:
I made this today, without the base, as I just wanted to put the mousse into little cups for a high tea party I am having on Friday.
All was going well, the mixture tastes great, however the gelatine that I poured boiling water over at the beginning, as per the instructions, was all solid by the time I went to put it in the mixture. So I put it in anyway, hoping it would dissolve into the mixture, but it didn't. So even after all the mixing, the mousse has little clumps of solid gelatine all the way through it and I guess is not going to set properly. As nice as it still tastes, a lumpy liquid mousse is not ideal to serve to guests!
Did I leave the gelatine in the boiling water too long?
Should I have just mixed the gelatine up with boiling water at the end and added to the mixture immediately?

Hi there,
I am imagining that at some point you were distracted and this took longer than it should have, between putting gelatine in to hot water and the blending of it through the mixture. As it only does take a little while to soften, you could just do it before you are ready to add it and blend it for the 20 secs…but make sure it has dissolved in the water. The other thing is perhaps you did not use enough water?? (Not sure, but just a suggestion.) It should not be a paste, but more like a thick liquid…does that make sense?? Hope so….good luck and let us know how the little ones turn out…sounds so cute!

Thanks Tenina. Yes I thought it must have been too long, since someone arrived at the house to fix the door and then I had to juice the limes, etc...! I used 50grams of water as it says in the recipe.
So I am off to the shops now to buy some more ingredients. This time I will dissolve it just before I add it to the mix, to make sure it isn't a solid lump.
Hmm, what am I going to do with all that lumpy mousse. Wonder if the kids will eat it!?

Why don't you try turboing it to break up as many lumps as possible and then turn it into icrecream or a frozen dessert?

Thanks guys. That is what I did end up doing, after telling a friend about the disaster, before I had seen these replies.
I sieved out the lumps (they were not all all able to be blitzed, as I had tried many times!!) and then added a bit more gelatine back into the mixture for it to set. Everyone loved the end result!
