Hi and Thank you for having me on board
« on: March 17, 2012, 02:06:56 pm »
Hi my name is Karen and I live in Perth's northern suburbs. I am still deciding if the TMX is a worthwhile investment for our family. I have been doing heaps of research, but have yet to make the commitment. The cost is certainly a stumbling block although hubby says if you want it, buy it. Hopefully browsing thru this forum will help me come to a decision.

Hi and welcome to the forum Karen, well at least you have already overcome one thing, that's convincing your Husband.
Now you just need to convince your self.
Yes the price of the TM is probably the biggest decision you need to make, and on this forum we are all going to say yes they are well worth it (which they are) and yes they do make your cooking experience more enjoyable (yes it does) and yes you won't regret it (definitely not).
I have never regretted my purchase of my TM (not even for a second) and after 14 months I am still amazed at what it can do.
All I can suggest is you look at reviews and listen to what people have to say and go with your heart.

I'm sure you will make the right decision for what suits you and your family.

Good luck.

Karen I am already in love with your DH. You should listen to him.  No doubt he is tired of you talking about it.   :D ;)   Consider it a lifetime investment . Years to come you will be wondering why you hesitated. Your TMX  will open your world to some wonderful cooking experiences and maybe a few "interesting" ones.  Welcome to the forum.

Good morning, Karen.  Gert has certainly nailed it.  It's a lifetime investment for you and your family.  Once you start using the Thermomix and gaining more and more confidence you'll never look back - and given time, what it saves in time and money (lower grocery bills, takeaways gone, eating out (well, why would you ;D ;D) you'll get your money back.

I'm just wondering if both you and your DH have been to a demo, or a cooking class, and seen it in action.  I daresay if your DH saw it he just might even go ahead and buy it while you're still thinking about it! ;D ;)

Good luck and let's know how you go.  It is a big decision and you're wise to do the research . . . . but I can only think that you can't possibly go wrong with your TMX - AND all the wonderful people on this forum  - in your kitchen. :D

Hi karen and welcome to the forum.. As previously mentioned we are pro thx and think most of us have been in your situation.. First things first have you seen it in action or been to a demo?? If not get to one as seeing it in action changes everything.. Secondly only you can decide if its for you but i dont see why not.. If you cn cook or not that doesnt matter.. You will be able to do so much more and things you either nev had time for or never imagined yourself capable.. You know what goes into the food your family is eating.. More time with your family while its cooking, saving on gocery bills, alot quicker in both prep and cooking.. The list goes on ....ask any questions you wish to help you make your decision whatever that may be.. I purchased the thermomix almost 2 years ago nd havent regretted it once and neither has my husband and since 2 friends have also invested in one and dont regret it either.. Good luck with your decision!

Hi Karen, welcome to the forum.  I do hope our members can help you with your decision making as you will not regret owning one of these little wonders.  We are normally trying to convince husbands that their wives need it so it is a change for the situation to be in reverse here  :D  Have a good read of the forum, check out some of the recipes and you will soon make a decision - note that we all leave our TMX's on the bench, never put it away in a cupboard.  It gets used so many times a day once you become familiar with it and believe me, from personal experience you will want to make things you have never ever considered making - why, just because you can ;)

Hi Karen and welcome to the forum.  You will not regret buying a TMX, there is just so much you can do with it.  Find out if there are any demos being held nearby and take DH with you and you will see why we are all fans of this wonderful machine.
The  man who said it can't be done should not interupt the woman doing it.

hi Karen and welcome.
I am not one of the TMX owners,  I have a TC and really really love it.
I had seen videos of TMX and knew I wanted one and that I would use it.  And that it would not find its way to the back of the cupboard with other gadgets to collect dust
My DH was not convinced about the value of one of these machines at all.  And the TMX was out of the question.   :-\
But I wanted help in the kitchen so I bought TC and have not regretted it at all.
I have had to find ways around a few problems where TMX just breezes through like kneading bread dough but he can do it.

I am sure that you would love a TMX and if your hubby is happy to buy one, go for it.
My hubby now agrees that they are a wonder in the kitchen.  I often hear him singing TC's praises to other people and telling them about what I make and what it can do and how much better our diet is now.

We have had TC for about 4 months and he is used almost every day for something.  My stand mixer and stick mixer still get a run on occasion but I could now reduce my cupboard clutter to 1/4 what I had.  Many pots and pans and other gadgets have found their way to our local op shop and I have another big box full ready to go this week.
And I am now using the baking pans that were collecting dust much more as I bake everything we eat and don't buy cake, bread, premixes etc.

Sorry that is a bit of a long answer.   :-))

Welcome Karen. I agree with all the things already said. If my TMX needed replacing I would do it immediately. In fact I just remarked to my DH that I am going to miss cooking as DD and I go away for a week tomorrow. It's not the cooking I will miss, it is using my TMX.
Before I bought my machine I loved cooking, but didn't often make bread, jam, chutney, sauces etc because of the time and work involved. Now I buy very little bread, (only for DD) no icecream or jams etc.
You are the only person who can decide, but I do hope you go ahead. If you haven't seem a demo please do and you will be very impressed. I was retired when I bought mine and concerned about the cost, but that soon wore off.

Hi again,
Just wanted to let you know that after much soul searching, I ending up compromising and buying a Thermochef. The difference in price was too much to ignore. Anyway, I have used many recipes from this forum with great success. I am really thrilled with my purchase. So far I have only had one complete disaster and I think I forgot to set the temp. thus everything just mixed up but didn't actually cook. Can't blame the machine for my stupidity.
For Mothers day I did a morning tea, with everything made with my trusty, Thermochef. Never fail cupcakes with Raspberry frosting, some Scones, Vanilla yo-yo biscuits, Spinach and Feta dip and Capsicum, Cashew and Sun-dried tomato dip with Pide bread. All the recipes except the last two came from this wonderful forum. I would love to say Thank you to all those who take the time and effort to post. Hopefully I will be able to contribute something useful soon. ;)
